A New Feedback Friday: Why Wasn’t THAT in Eval?

posted ago by baron

When we first introduced Feedback Friday back in September, we wanted to provide a live broadcast that gave community members an inside look at how the Quirky staff evaluate and design the products we make. So far, the program’s format has focused on analyzing and providing feedback for active ideations, and we’re quite pleased with how that’s going, but if there’s one thing that Quirky has in droves, it’s the desire to improve the status quo. That’s why, throughout the month of December, we’ve decided to stir up the pot, and try out a handful of new formats to see if any of them hold an even greater benefit for the Quirky community at large.

This week, the format we’ve chosen revolves around ideas that are Under Consideration: specifically, the reasons why some are chosen to go to Thursday’s live product evaluation, and some are not. For those of you who don’t know, the Quirky staff hold a series of pre-evaluation meetings each week, which bring together a rotating group of employees to decide which of the ideas under consideration that week are going to be discussed at Eval. This process is handled internally, and while we relay the group’s feedback directly to each UC inventor, along with anyone who asks, most community members aren’t aware of why certain ideas are brought to Eval, while others don’t make the cut. On Friday, we’d like to change that.

The format we’re pursuing for this week’s Feedback Friday broadcast is simple. At 3pm ET on Friday, staff members from this week’s pre-evaluation committee will sit down for an open Q&A with the community, to discuss why certain ideas made it to Eval when others did not. If you looked at this week’s list of ideas under consideration, and thought “hey, I really liked this, why wasn’t this discussed last night?”, you can ask that directly of the preval committee. On the other hand, if you thought “Ugh, that third idea at Eval was crap, why’d they bother to talk about it?”, you can ask that too. We’re all about transparency here at QHQ, and if you’ve got a question that’s burning a hole in your pocket, we want to give you an answer.

Unlike prior Feedback Fridays, this broadcast doesn’t require any prep work, so there’s no need to post links to ideations in the comments or forum thread. Simply tune in for Thursday’s 7pm ET product evaluation, and get ready to come back the next day with your questions. If only everything in life were this easy…

Great idea! This will be both interesting and helpful.

Is there a video link to last weeks (11/30) feedback Friday?

  • Laura Lantz

Interesting stuff! How do you decide what goes under consideration in the first place? Is it a matter of what's got the most votes and/or catches a Quirky staff member's eye, or is there more to it?

Last Friday, you guys said you were moving the Musical Train straight to UC. Why didn't that happen?

Should be both interesting and helpful!

EW: We just hadn't gotten around to it yet, it is now in UC! As for the recording of last week's broadcast, we are working to get it up on Quirky's Ustream channel (http://www.ustream.tv/quirkylive), so it should be available shortly.

so this will be a preval that community can take part in, like eval but pre that, will you be giving the community the channce to show their veiws on ideas by using the same tools available at eval? to save a lot of discussion in the chat. i mean like price, sentiment meter, thumbs up down type thing? maybe its worth considering.

Baron, Just wanted to know, I have had two ideas that went UC then was told they were not going to peruse at this time and I was given feedback… I have addressed the feedback and answered the questions, is there a chance that they will get looked at again, I have resubmitted but have not received any response by Q staff, even with the ideas getting a 70% vote to view response by the community. Not mad just wondering???

This is really a nice gesture to retain our Members' Loyalty and continue to Patronize Quirky Inc.

Can you also tell us why Quirky is only targeting individual consumers and not Businesses ? I received a feedback like this from one of your Staffs, and it sounded like he was saying that the idea is feasible but unfortunately Quirky does not target Businesses ...

  • stazy

I hope that I can watch this at a later date.

  • Paul Proctor

I agree with stazy - I missed the live broadcast but would like to see a replay.

  • Chris Howard

I'd like to see a replay also, us international members are sound asleep at the time.
