Exactly what it says! Use it.

Does it mean most votes or most viewed?

I'm not sure how it works but I really like it, there are ideas I didn't ever see before showing up. Nice Job Quirky!

My guess..........most votes to date.

A little bit of column A and a little bit of column B... and many other columns.

But in all seriousness, it weighs a number of factors in a way that we think should continuously surface ideas that are interesting and worth further evaluation. We've followed many discussions here very closely regarding how ideas get sorted and presented and taken them into consideration, so hopefully you'll have fun figuring out exactly how popularity is being calculated.

Vote for the most popular and forget it as that's what is going to happen anyway:{

Checked out the function. It's interesting. I assume it accounts for all the rating and voting factors and organizes them that way.

My guess is it's random, and it's a test to see how that affects voting, or it's just to try to deter people from comment padding.

...still testing. I hope they explain how it works. I noticed that the default "random" initially always presents submissions in the same order. That's not random. But, comparing what "most popular" is to what I thought was most popular is jarring...
@Quirky, We need some explanation for "most popular" to be of any real value. It could also mean the most views, highest overall ratings, most votes, a combination of them...

@justin-a placebo? Hadn't thought of that. But, it makes sense. Especially, because it has turned my logic upside-down.

I assure you, it isn't a placebo and it is not random. Results get recalculated every hour.

And so far, it is working exactly as it should. Given that in the past you guys have been very concerned about potential gaming of the system, wouldn't you say it is in your best interest to not disclose precisely how this is calculated? I will say that most every aspect of engagement is considered, but we'll be tweaking the formula as we gather more data.

Ah well I got something out of you. Maybe it takes into account old sorts like last commented on. Maybe quirky staff can give thumbs up/down.

My guess it is mainly highest average ratings. There are mainly ideas on the first page which haven't had much activity but about 3 or 4 positive comments. They have therefore been rated only a few times - but rated hghly giving them a higher average rating than ideas that have been rated a lot but which include low ratings.

Thank you Quirky for at least listening and coming up with something new.
