Search by Ideator?

Is there a way to quickly find an idea submission by a particular ideator? Say I want to find and check out MarcR's idea in the midst of 700+ submissions - how can I do this without going through all of the ideas?

I think this would be a great idea. Everytime someone posted in the forum if you were inclined to check out their ideas, you could click their profile and then click the links to their latest submissions. This would be more helpful in finding people you know have consistantly good ideas so you don't have to hunt through tons of submissions to find them.

Jim, that's exactly what I'm thinking. I'm shocked Quirky doesn't already have this feature (that I can find). This could either be based on the profile or it could be a search within the submissions. It seems elementary.

I am thinking that they feel it might be a more organic and fair voting forum to have folks search through each submission rather than just voting in our cliques or for past winners. I would like to have both versions available. I think it would cut down on pimping and spamming ( somewhat) if we could just click on someone's profile and view their submissions. I know at GeniusCrowds they have this feature.

That would be great if they would incorporate this. Matt is the new go-to-guy for ideas such as this so put your idea in the thread welcoming him.

I've seen a person put a link to their submissions in their 'props' area of their profile. That was clever and an easy way to get to their idea.

Even though I like the idea of searching by "Ideator" wouldn't this create a bias? Some people might think an old member of Q with multiple wins must have a great idea compared to a newbie. If Steve jobs submitted an idea how many people would vote for it v/s for an unknown entity?

I have noticed when you use the "Search" feature at the top of the page, and you are looking for an ideator, what comes up is not all the ideations by that ideator.

The search at the top of the page is for the whole site, so you will find things like forum entries as well as comments made on other's ideas
.
You can eliminate the forum hits by using a site-specific google search:
.
"Kat Devlon" site:www.quirky.com/ideations/
.
but this will still return any comments made on other's ideas. If you feel LUCKY you can use 'submitted by'
.
"Submitted by: Kat Devlon" site:www.quirky.com/ideations/
.
The problem with this is that it doesn't always work and I don't know why. I have just tried it with a name from an ending soon entry and although it is found using the first search, 'submitted by' search doesn't work. Even just adding the single word submitted (not as a phrase) kills the results - which is strange when you can see it in google's cached page?! I guess you can try that and if you don't get any results, try something else.
.
Some people place their names in the title. This allows them to appear in the participate search results. The SAME THING can be achieved, more subtly, by putting your name in the body of your submission - perhaps as a sign-off at the end. This also works if someone else credits you in their submission.
.
From an individual's perspective, the easiest and most helpful thing to do, by far, is to make your profile page more user-friendly.
That way people can reach this information just by clicking on your name.

Thanks for the detailed response! Too bad someone has to go to Google to get specific info contained on Quirky.

It is a nuisance but I've actually got a couple of blank quirky-specific google searches on my menu bar in chrome.

Following on from the comment about making your profile as easy to navigate here's the code I use to add extra categories and photos my profile:

<br /><b>Submissions:</b> <br /> <br />
<a href="http://www.quirky.com/ideations/myfirstidea"><img src="http://myphoto.jpg" width=210 height=140>mytext.</a>
<a href="http://www.quirky.com/ideations/mysecondidea"><img src="http://myphoto.jpg" width=210 height=140>mytext.</a>

Just amend the urls, picture and text and paste it into your profile under the 'website' entry.
You can see the url in the address bar when viewing your idea page and you can copy the url of any picture by right clicking on it and selecting the relevant option, depending on your browser.

I've posted it elsewhere but it seemed appropriate to this thread too.

If you are a prolific submitter and have got as far as adding your name in to your ideas to make it easy for people to search, you can always add the search url instead of a particular idea number.

People who have done searches for me on Quirky come back to me saying they couldn't find my listing...so I think your idea is a very needed one!

It's a no-brainer. Often times, people will ask, "Please check out my idea"... but we can't!

This is why it is important to list your idea links in the website area of your profile (separate with commas). At least if people click you , or search you , they have your ideas at hand. I have also been noticing people including a list of their ideas on the pages of the submissions lately, too.

and other people. Is it so they can add additional Votes to their ideations?

I am still fairly new here, hence my question.
