45
Request to Community: (1) Help new inventors; (2) Tell Sundance what you think of the show; (3) Vote for Quirky in BusinessWeek; (4) Rock the Social Sales; (5) Get involved in Rachel Ray Brief
(0:46) Q & A: From forum thread
(1) Quirky not entering Walmart;
(2) Production with Splash Stacks and Unhampered delayed because in redesign;
(3) Tape Stamp not to officially be released/manufactured by Quirky; there is working prototype, but too much pressure/force needed; other options being explored;
(4) Ben unaware that BBB may have been removed inventor credit on instore video; will look into it, but doubts it it true.
(5) Lift on electronic and $150 restrictions was due to make invention more accessible.
(6) Confrmred nibbles on head of product licensing hire, but no more details to share.
(7) Did Quirky buy a factory in Detroit? Ben: "I freakin' wish."
(8) There are more prototypes than those that appeared on Sundance, like Stake, Iron Station, etc...and will be continued to be used as sales tools.
(9) Focused shifted away from comment influence to an entirely new process that recognizes all/most relevant influence (in new eval system).
(10) Joule (and others) will be redesigned when it makes sense for inventor and Quirky.
(11) Jake is still on track to make $150K by the end of this year, and maybe even beat it.
(12) Forum discussion, including about comment counts, have influenced new eval system (but comment counts may stay)
(13) Wildcard is determined by diverse group of staff, a panel including all departments, who go through/browse every single idea. May not be part of new system.
(14) Voting is currently weighted, in a sense. New eval will minimize the value of a vote, and maximize the value of collaboration.
(15) New eval will stimulate improving an idea's presentation (eg. visuals) via collaboration before being considered by Quirky.
(16) Fort Factory very close to full design; trying to get best cost.
(17) Ember is back to redesign because of wire gauge safety issues, ETA next year.
(18) Sundance Quirky Season 2 not determined, Quirky would love it; tell Sundance
(19) Quirky's new model may actually help ideas that don't necessarily solve a problem (ie. are just fun).
(20) Quirky hopes to go green, eventually.
(21) Of two identical ideas, Quirky tends to choose the one with more community interest. Community should help curate more.
(22) QDS may at times not submit their own concepts initially, letting the community do more up front and earlier. Live Brainstorming is intended to help the community get inspired.
(23) No plans for Android, or in Facebook application.
(24) No Summit 2 planned. May be a QUIRKY CONFERENCE (great speakers, design Moneyball-like live): Vote here on Get Satisfaction if interested.
(25) Pending payments (committed to vs. shipped) may be broken down more to provide more details.
(26) Brainstorming about the Quirky process to be scheduled by Rob.
(27) New eval will involve community more; but fears breaking process in flow of information and idea and products.
(1:05) Q&A: From Chat
(28) Not going to pursue Kickstarter-like presale model, but making fun changes (social and viral) for new presale model.
(29) Quirky does hire old people (John and others) and focus is on skill sets; Lisa parted ways on good terms, mutually.
(30) Quirky only listed on patents if they provide certain releavant info and integral on process.
(31) Influence for marketing is tricky, but possible and wanted (long term). Compared to upfront market research.
(32) Beta testing with community not likely because desire to move quickly; internal testing is extensive.
(33) Hana abandoned.
(34) Quirky stores...maybe someday.
(35) Eval and Presale changes somewhat related to task force? (1:11)
(36) Move to new location: Feb/Mar of next year.
(37) Quirky's view of insite pimping/spamming: "Don't be a dick," Quirky can't police the threads.
(38) Live evals would be nice, but not convenient. Maybe with new office (required lots of setting up)
(39) Flagging may be part of new system to allow community to police themselves.
(40) Briefs will end, but still 2 products per week.
(41) No more free submissions; coupons still usable.
(42) HSN will not be previewing new products before holidays.
(43) 9 months presale plan will still be part in new process.
(44) Waffler...nothing is going on with it.
(45) Will not consider private idea submission.
(46) Presale is designed to determine price sensitivity and volume around that.
(47) New presale influence, without thresholds, may relate to price sensitivity
(48) Don't use Quirky-created imagery; Quirky product images allowed if you credit the copyrights to Quirky; you can take your own photo of Quirky products
(49) New site should help folks walk through an optimized inventing process (vs. simply just providing more content)
(50) No investments in products or company allowed
(51) Entering coupon codes will let you know if it is still valid. "Heyben" may work.
(52) Quirky adding copyright to images.
(53) Bonfi not yet going ahead with Camping retailer.
(54) Poll about comment counts too small. But they will remaining flexible. If it becomes right, they will do it.
(55) Stance joint mechanism tricky, engineering challenge.
(56) New eval: idea submissions rolling, in and out as they please; When Quirky says they are no longer interested (after 7 or 30 days, say), you can remove your idea, or have it sit in a private archive (open to retailers and licensers)
(57) Majority of products that were just pushed out of presale had retail interest, but not all got orders.
(58) Weekly emails (now monday) are getting old members back in to Quirky; But keeping low profile until new launch, at which point there will be a heavy push to remarket and reengage.
(59) Trek Support and Hydraduo has no update.
(60) No strong plan to drive direct sales; needs our help; fix the store; priority is website and infrastructure.
(61) IPO or buyout? Quirky plans to be around for centuries. Focus is on making invention accessible.
(62) Did the wave again.
Someone there seems to have a problem with the scale: centuries instead of years, 90 degrees instead of 45, and so on.
Wow! Impressive Matt!
Biggest news to me is...
Hitting Threshold: (Slides 76 - 90)Cush, Bloom, Tether, Sliders, Stake, Portion, Porter, Converge, Mirage, Mocubo, Scribe, Stepper, Iron Station, Brim, Nautilus, Thor
That is a lot of stuff (and personally, a lot of stuff I have at least a little skin in)... appears like they are really getting interest in the kitchen and household segments. Hopefully they can all get into the stores soon.
Thanks for posting this Matt. I watched it live and then went back to the blog for screen shots. I was hoping someone would post minutes so it's easier to refer to. You did a GREAT JOB with it - easy to read! Thanks
Great Job Matt! The video update was very proficient as well!
Thank you!!!
