What Do Y'All Think Of Notifications?

We're working on tweaking our notifications system and wanted to poll the community...

Do you prefer receiving your project status notifications (i.e. "product winners chosen," "it's time for tagline," etc.) by e-mail, or in your on-site Quirky inbox?

As we move forward with site upgrades, we want to make sure we are aware of how the community operates. Please help us out by answering this question on this thread!

Thanks,
CA Jess

I like getting them by email vs. on the site. Why.... because, it states in the email how much influence I have won. I'm all about winning influence.

I would also love to get notification, along with the actual message) when someone posts a comment to my idea submission. Of course, this suggestion could annoy those who receive many many comments. (At least let it be an on/off option we could choose.)

I prefer email too. Thanks for asking!

I like email too, and the new version is an improvement, but:

1. It would be nice to have a link from the email to the winner (like in the old verrsion);

2. If you get influence, the email lists it, but then still says "maybe thing didn't work out this time . . . "

3. It is great having the winning tagline or name listed in the email. Can we also have a picture of the winning logo or industrial design?

4. Can we have a rough name for a currently unnamed product? It would be great to call it "the Quirky Spatula" or "the Quirky Earbud Manager" instead of "Product 0038." The name can then change from "Quirky Earbud Manager" to "Wrapster" when it is named.

Agreements? Disagreements?

Roy

E-mail is good with me, the only change I would request would be to provide a link to the project that has been completed, so for example:
Product X's logo design has finished and winner has been announced;
In e-mail continue to provide info on winner but now also include a link to the product X's logo design phase.

I like getting notified by email, but if multiple products have notifications i would like to get only one email per day with all the notifications in them. I do like seeing the influence achieved in the email.

Email works for me - the notifications didn't make my inbox on the nav menu got to (1) or whatever so I didn't know they even existed in that location until about a week after I joined the site and clicked on 'notifications' in the inbox by accident :)

@Jess - As someone who checks in to Quirky.com multiple times a day, online notifications would be nice. I love the email that lets me know when the phases are up, and how much influence (if any) I was awarded. However, in addition to influence emails I would also like a online dashboard that would show me what's new since the last time I signed on. For instance, if I write a comment to Fred about Click N' Cook, I would like to be able to see 5 hours later, if anyone else has commented on Click N Cook, especially if it is in response to my comment. Since I usually have a few forum posts, a few idea feedback posts, and then logos and etc. jumping all over the site just to see if someone made a comment gets time consuming.

Thanks so much for the valuable feedback! We'll work on integrating your opinions in our next round of edits.

@Austin -- We actually discussed setting up an online dashboard during our last staff meeting. It will require quite a bit of programming to do it right, so unfortunately we won't be able to set that up before summer. Know that it's in the works!

I like Jeff's idea. I would love a daily notification as opposed to four notifications in the same day. I like organization, so that would help :). I also love having influence info provided. Keep it up!

Email definitely. The one consolidated daily email would be cool, but I realize it may not be feasible. Thanks for all of the hard work.

I would vastly prefer doing all my Quirky messaging onsite. (I like how you give us options now -- email or onsite notification). But I would love my "message inbox" to show (2) or (1) or whatever if there's a notification, so I know. And for everything to load (or be deleted) much faster. It's taken me forever (over half an hour) to get the info I wanted with today's round of winners and new contests.

Thanks for letting us weigh in.

email vs site inbox. Would prefer a summary of winners and or other notifications for all projects on one email, rather than 6 separate emails.

At the top of our home page where it reads: Forum My Profile My Account, It would be nice to have a drop-down list of what can be found within the menu item, with the option to select a specific category. Thanks for asking.

The best thing I like is that we have the on/off choices that we have. If you add new features, make it a checkbox.

Personal messages have an unread counter at the top of the page, but the Quirky notifications have no indication that they arrived.

slightly off topic...
Please, please turn off the random listing feature on the new product evaluation page. When I move to page two, half of what was on page one randomly re-lists.

Good news... I tried to post three times and it didn't work...but then it did...but all I had to do was delete with the new delete button!

To me the blog is kinda out of site out of mind when a new notification comes out ...Make it blink..

I like the emails, partly because they are so convenient (the notifications take me about three clicks to get to.)
