Some ideas even good ones may never be considered.
I see lots of posts or comments regarding serious thoughts or ideas, they seem to be shot down because the word is that quirky does not put the money into ideas unless they only get into bed bath and beyond type products. I think I need to read the rules of invention ideas so I am more clear on the subject. Most of us pay a small fee of $10.00 and maybe they meaning Quirky should have a review process that would advise you if the product is not feasible so you would know off hand that your idea will not go anywhere and give a refund. I have only been with Quirky about a one month, I like the concept of coming up with new ideas and inventions it's great but a lot of us are paying the 10.00 fee with no chance of ever being considered according to some other members. Just my two cents. Thank you.
Yes, they should have guidelines. After two years of producing products, they do know what types of products they will never make.
.
It is up to the submitter to do their own research by looking at the projects that have been accepted and come to some conclusions.
Seems that some of the products chosen for production are not very versatile--only serving one purpose & too specialized. But Quirky is new, maybe after they work out the bugs they will be better at selecting the next hot product (ie. Snuggie or ipad).
actually the odds on an idea getting picked aren't great when you start to look at the numbers, unless you have something that fits the mould and is way out there.even if it is way out on top with great research im thinking it still might not make it. and agree some clear guidelines would help a bit.
Keep the feedback and take it elsewhere, it's a little bit market research for sure (and Ben promotes the feedback you get to take it elsewhere as a gift, and it is!!)...also, if your product gets high votes (example: I received 278 votes in 5 days!!) and then I removed it, I really wanted the feedback...if you do get picked, that's great, but it's not all bad if you don't!! FYI!! The next step is to go to market, if that happens, your good, if not, your product is dead and perhaps you could take it elsewhere if given back..chances are slim though...the reality is that not every product will be a success, your $10 is worth the try, but if you don't have everything line up (to include getting onto shelves) well, you be the judge...

Quirky is great for products that they design well and punch a wow to a retailer, the other products like soap dispensers will not do well...finding a great "new and exciting" product like the new germ killer roll out towel dispenser will be huge if they do a great job in selling it!!
Possibly even a small review after your idea expires. It would be nice to know after an idea expires why it wasnt chosen for example, "too expensive" "technology doe not exist" "not enough market" "Quirky not interested in pursuing" ETC...
Someone said once your product is listed with Quirky if you take it anywhere else and it makes money that Quirky gets 10%. I can't imagine any other submission company would touch a product with that sort of lien on it. I suppose if you try and license it yourself...well, even in that situation...the company would have to give up 10% of profits. Not just your profit from the license. I think once you post your idea to Quirky...you might be 90% sunk with taking it elsewhere unless it's really really good and you can convince a company to have Q be part owner.
I joined Quirky last week. I am trying to get a feel for the type of products they push forward. If I'm not satisfied with what I find; if being a member of Quirky is not a win-win situation, I'll remove myself as a member. This is not like American Idol. "OH I JUST HAVE TO MAKE IT! THIS IS MY BIG CHANCE!" Phooey! Find an inventors club in your area (I did), join (I shall) & move forward! If Quirky can't help make your dream come true...you make your own dream come true! I, AM!
Heck we can start our OWN socially networked idea/product company. There's more of us, than there is of them! LOL!
Yes, I agree. Mine is now buried so sad in a pile of pages that I do not think most of the community would look through all of the Pets section. If it could be narrowed down. EX: like not thirty days. Just be up front the first week in,or have a message pop up after the process to tell them this idea already has been submitted.
To S.S. yes, good luck, inventors meetings are invaluable. you will hear success and horror stories- The money it takes to promote a product, get the word out, etc, my sister and I have gone through it and yet, here we are on quirky- I already know we have a good product (we tried it the "hard way" going it alone)
How to successfully get our Ideas noticed is to keep the FAITH & support one another by clicking on each of our profiles here in this forum going to our links offering advise, comments & more important VOTES! Togetherness brings success.
Well ,i got 106 vote for my SEA BIKE in 3 days ,now its under pile of 99cent store products ideas, if they didnt proceed with it ill Do it myself.. now i know my idea is worth try ! ill find a patent lawyer and ill patent it, at least ill make sure that no body gonna rob my invention !!! .
Chicco don't forget that your sea bike was stuck on the first page of the most active section (in error) for two of those three days - you might want to do some other market research before you invest.
