Anyone beleives others are hogging your spotlight on forums

I have been a memeber for or a couple of days and trying to learn how to do this. Well I've noticed that there is this one women posting this: All pimping and promoting is relatively tolerated in pimp thread only, where you get many more views, and folks may actually click on your link, check out your submission, and provide requested feedback.
.

**Please beware that starting your own personal pimping thread, promoting your idea in another's comment area (aka hijacking/needbacking), and spamming (via email/msg) may result in some Quirks reporting/blocking you, and/or being straight-up irritated with you.http://www.quirky.com/forums/topic/6594

Is this legit or someone just trying to be the last one to post something have there picture to pop up first to catch more peoples attention and at the same time, acting like the good guy here. I'm just confused about it. I looked for a rule book and says nothing about pimping your thread here!

DOs and DON’Ts from the Community

"Don’t…
-Message people, start forum threads, or comment on submissions to ask for votes. That’s spamming and disrespectful to other people’s time and ideas. Plus, a lot of people actually rate ideas down to protest these tactics, so it might backfire!"

There are thousands of active submissions right now. If each one of those people came to the forums and posted a self promotion topic the forums would be overwhelmed with them and unusable for any type of real discussions. That's why The Pimping Zone was created, to keep it all in the same place so the forums don't get flooded with them.

Yeah, I saw a few people follow others that would hunt other people down because of jealousy. Or maybe it wasn't spam, I have know idea. Kinda made me think twice about posting anything I suppose. Alittle scary

But I can see how that could be annoying

We are kind of a pissy bunch around here. So best thing to do is kinda sit back and see how the big kids in the pool play then jump right in. Don't let anything ruin your experiences here, it's ok to be new, we all were as well,. I still don't fit in. lol Have fun, submit ideas (with pictures) and read through the forums for some really good entertainment.

Kyle, I know what you are saying but I think this sort of thing is perfectly legitimate.

The established community is understandably feeling stressed/let down since the core activity of generating and commenting on ideas on the main Q site has been temporarily swamped. They cannot influence that but for them the forum is a precious thing that could very quickly become devalued.

If you look back (before the big wave) sporadic 'pimping' did occur in other threads but normally only by us noobs. For some, the whole site seems to be purely about promoting their ideas. There are people pimping in the 'exisiting products' forum, the 'please don't pimp here' and the 'what's with all these poor ideas' threads. There are even people pimping, being asked not to, apologising and then going straight back to pimping ... all in the same thread.

So I am not suprised if people choose to cut and paste their message in these circumstances. As for the other 'motivated posters' I would prefer to imagine them as open and friendly individuals and potential playmates in a new school.

Well said @simplyinclined

@Kyle - use the pimping zone. A lot of people are going there to search for good ideas since the idea submission pages are being overrun. I've started doing that to find ideas to vote for. Also, put your link to your idea on your profile page under website. It makes it easier for people to see what you have to offer if they click your name.

Dear Pimp, when does your new thread start? This community has much need of your advice and council on many important and pressing matters. It could be like a cross between Judge Judy and Montel Williams. WE NEED THE PIMP!!

It is all crapsalad. Promote your idea anyway you can think of. Those who tell you not to are just using some other method.

I think the forums have turned into a few people who want to tell everyone else what the perceive the rules to be. NOTE Ben would not have gotten this project off the ground without breaking the rules.
.
Matt Flemming works for Quirky on behalf of the community and he is the only one outside of the staff that you need to listen to. Everyone else is here for the same reason you are so take what they say with a grain of salt IMO.
.
FYI I HATE the stupid Pimp thread becasue it does not work to advertise your idea at all, it's just a way to stop people from filling the forums up with ideas. With over 1,000 posts it is now just a joke.
