How do successful Quirky users get their ideas noticed?

Hi all,

I'm new to the site--my idea has only been up for a week. I've noticed that some users have been very successful at getting products made and/or influencing the products of others. I'd appreciate it if someone could share some insight on strategies for successfully promoting products.

Kindest regards,
Michelle

Welcome to the Q! A product has to be great and there has to be a market for it because a great idea may not have a demand for it. Timing is everything! If you submit your idea and then 30 other ideas are submitted at the same time, you may be so low on the list that no one sees your invention. Try to submit your ideas when you feel like it is not at peak time, that way more people will see your idea. You can "pimp" your inventions by placing links to it on Facebook or Twitter and on your Q profile page. Try checking out the Pimping zone in the Q forum. Good luck

Thanks for sharing your insight! Has anyone done research on peak and non-peak times to submit.

Maybe Q should add a button for staff picks they feel should have more votes.

I find that (if you have a good idea) you can get quite a few votes within the first couple of days , and then......... you fall so far back in line that you are never seen or heard from again. I call it no mans land.

I think the rotation should be random. Giving our prodicts the chance to be seen on the first page every couple of days.

TopDog,

I agree with you. I think the Quirky team should pick out promising ideas and bring them to the attention of members. It would be great to have some assurance that great ideas would be able to be given serious consideration even if they don't win a popularity contest.

Hi, I'm also new here and it seems to me that if Quirky really actually looks at someones idea they should at least tell the inventor what they think could be wrong with it or if they are not interested in it for somereason. I think my idea is good and would be easy to make and sell. If there is something I didn't consider it would be nice to know what that was!! Thanks.

Yea, I hope Quirky adds some new functionality that will prevent great ideas (such as mine =]) from getting lost in the shuffle. I posted my idea at 1am EST this morning and it is already showing up on the 9th "page".

I have to say the "successful" quirky users don't have to worry about their product being seen, I have noticed that when a previously successful quirkster posts an idea, many others flock to it-I understand because influence plays a large measure but there does seem to be a 'mini" personality contest going on- many good ideas will just get passed over or not seen.

I agree with David Brown's post about adding a Q-staff button.

The staff goes through and puts ideas under UC - that's their way of making staff picks. You can still comment on them at that point but not vote.

How to promote your submission

I think the main things are these:
#1: Have a good idea (that solves a problem in a new but practical way)
#2: Make a great visual that's easy to understand
#3: Craft your 140 character pitch

what if youre not on Facebook or Twitter? Shouldn't Quirky just do what they say theyre going to do? Which is look at all submitted Ideas?
