I think there should be some kind of filter on the submited ideas

Hi there.

I just joined yesterday, and checked some of the proposed ideas.

I was discouraged because I saw some good ideas, but many many of them were lacking of basic technical knowledge, or were already invented.

It's like if I submit an idea of:
- X-ray contact lense that also throws laser rays in case of need for spy agents.
or
- A portable 1 pound nuclear powerplant to supply all the energy I will need in my life for my house and my car.

I mean, shouldn't there be a button like the 'vote this product' but on the other direction? Or a 'not like' button? I don't know, even a button that doesn't show any number, but keeps a counter so that an admin could easy identify those ideas not of interest...

Just thinking...

Ya,sometimes it's like a "Submissions/Inventions Gone Wild" episode.

There is a thread started to propose solutions to this problem:

I seriously doubt this is Q's main source of revenue, although that would be interesting information. Lots of free codes out there on the internet.

Submissions are a substantial part of Quirky's revenue stream, but by far not the _main_ source.

You just have to look at the product store pages to see that. By my calculations, submissions at most account for 10% of revenues.

Yes. Please do this Q. Or maybe a "Totally Lacking Merit" button. If a submission gets so many "Lacking Merit" votes than it is pulled down. Please something like this is needed. Get the junk out so more attention goes to good ideas.

I agree, some of these ideas look like they were submitted by children. Also many are not ideas but pipe dreams as in Nobutaka's examples. I think there should be an "ineligible" button for these kinds of submissions, but also for things that don't fall within the Q submission guidelines.

There are also MANY submission that are already on the market so perhaps a button for exiting products would help too. I realize that sometimes there are new features etc., but often it's someone who was just too lazy to check. For example the exiting idea of a combo washer and dryer. So exciting that I bought one years ago. A simple search would have told them that.

I have to admit I scroll past most of the ones without an image because they are often the ones submitted by 7th grade boys. ; )

My question is... who is wasting their time and $10 to post this junk?

Re: Totally lacking merit button. I would not want really off the wall stuff completely removed, but rather exiled into intellectual Siberia, where it can be still enjoyed for its zaniness or perhaps reevaluated if minds are changed. It should just be removed from the main set. I suggested negative votes along with positive votes, with a submission starting at 0.

It would be really funny if someone can make a skit or YouTube video of the odd ideas actually being invented. :)

Maybe Q can invite the SNL writers over for lunch one day and let them read about time machines and toilet lifters....

A lot of ideas look like they have been dug up from historical references for devices that never worked. Some of them violate the energy conservation, some disregard limitations of a human body, some lack understanding of what materials can do.
