What the Bleep is going on with Quirky?

This site should NOT be called or use the word invent! Let's just say it like it is...It is a place to re-designs products, gives them a "trendy cute - I think they think "hip" name and then try to sell them. I have only seen a handful of REAL unique ideas after being on the site few many months. I also miss the free submit ion every week because it was a fun exercise for my brain and creativity. Sorry Quirky, I do not think I will be back!

Feel better now that you got that out? :)

Sam, votes don't decide the winner. Q has professionals on staff that make the final decisions on things like name and tagline.

Professionals?

I promise, I have a sense of humor, but I'm going to respond to that anyway.

Viresh - I am sure that you are very creative and I don't think anyone can argue that based on your credentials. I was venting about the lack of "real inventions" on the site. As a designer one is able to redesign ANY product and make it more beautiful, cool looking, sleek and even work better as you have done over your career! However, most of the people submitting ideas are not coming up with anything new and innovative. I have only seen a small handful of interesting products. I think when all the names are posted side by side it starts to sound ridiculous, just way too many “cute” names in one place stands out. If a Swoosh let’s say was being marketed, the name sounds fun. But when you see Swoosh, Zuke, Bloom, etc. (I am just making these up) all together, it has to make you chuckle just a bit.
And for what it's worth, I really miss the challenge of getting a weekly "design" task now that Quirky got rid of the free submit category. It was really fun and I looked forward to it every week. I would also give it to my 11 year old son to do for fun…although young minds often think of the most amazing things….Steve Jobs RIP.

The usual is going on with the "Q" junk submissions. If anyone wants to bring it on, bring it. I have a little time on my hands. I am here.

LOL. What was to me? I don't pick the products or the names or the brand vision. All I was doing was pointing out to Sam that votes don't necessarily decide what names are picked, and to Steven, who was one of the real life people he suggested wasn't a professional. OK maybe I was suggesting they know what they are doing, but only time and sales will tell. They are just getting started and seem to be on a pretty good path.
I happen to like the brand, but your opinions make sense. Hopefully you like Q enough to hang around and be part of it some more. If what's really bothering you is no free submissions, I can suggest looking for a way around that, it might be pretty easy. If you are looking for briefs, go look at what's in UC or go to Target.com and come up with your own. If you are looking for innovative ideas, well come up with them!

My comment was not directed at anyone. It is just my perspective on the "Q's" junk submissions and under consideration submission.

This site is not for inventors it is for people with ideas with a twist.

LOL, I posted "Professionals?" and I found a link to the Quirky executive staff and Justin posted a bio of Viresh who no doubt is a "Professional". My comment was more directed to showing me what professionals are picking the ideas to go into UC. Are you telling me that professionals are picking the ideas to go to UC and then more experienced professionals are choosing from that selection to go to market and then Viresh does his magic? Or, does Viresh choose all? Seriously?

There are professionals selecting ideas for UC. Rumor has it one person is a professional janitor and the other has a Masters degree in family counseling. Not sure what credentials the new interns on the team have though.

Justin - Why should I go to taget.com? Can you explain? Also, I want to give you an example of what makes me crazy when I look at Quirky products...The perfect example is the click n Cook. You would think with all these great designers, that they would of come up with a design that ultimately saved space...but the overall product takes up just as much space(if not more) then having a different utensil for each use. This is the kind of stuff makes me so annoyed. Sorry, in my opinion design has to be functional as well as good looking. I love to cook and I see no benefit to clicking and unclicking parts, still need to wash just as many items! I think I did however suggest an idea for that one, that it clicked on and off like a razor blade. Just for bleeps and giggles.

I also wondered about the cook and click and was kinda hoping they would have added a back scratcher. ..........that could also be used for serving spaghetti. Neato !!
