"Collaboration Clubhouse" suggestion......

I was working on my LinkedIn profile the other day, and noticed that they have now expanded their interface to include links to your patents and inventions (plus papers, honors, awards, etc) on your profile. I have seen a couple of threads come through from some of the more "serious" inventors, wanting to have a safe place where they could collaborate. LinkedIn would be great those of you who want a more professional environment. You can make your own groups, including invitation only, if you are concerned about IP issues while you discuss your ideas.
.
If you already have a profile there for your "day job", consider fleshing it out to include (self employed) inventor, or (Quirky) inventor as a concurrent job on your profile. Being able to link to your patents and inventions right on the profile could be a great way to make connections with potential investors, other inventors, manufacturers, or for related business opportunities like guest speaking, blogging, conferences, or teaching.
.
LinkedIn really seems to constantly upgrade their product to provide the best possible networking opportunities for the members, and bends over backwards to make the product as "current" as possible in regards to social media. I couldn't help but think it might make a cool clubhouse for those of you that want to form "think tanks". And it's a whole lot less "spammy" than Facebook.
.
I will be interested to see what you think.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of various inventor groups on LinkedIn. Are you specifically interested in Quirky only group?

Maybe not specifically me, (unless I get invited to one :)) but I think there are others who do want to work together in a trustworthy environment. Having your credentials linked up on a network like that could expand opportunity outside of Q, also, or potentially bring new members or inventor "team" participants to the family, as well. Your engineering soulmate could be out there, and LI could be a good place to pow-wow.
.
I wouldn't mind having a Name/Tag group on there. I have a great appreciation for practitioners of "Word-Fu".

I have never heard of that site how does it work? There home page does not give any info and the about tab is about as useless as microsofts help.

Mark, if you go ahead and sign up it will walk you through setting up a profile (kind of like a resume) and it will suggest things to add. After you finish, you can look for others from your past jobs and contacts, ask for recommendations, write them for others, network, follow companies, get updates from your colleagues at their jobs, etc. Sort of like professional version of FB, no virtual beers or farmville, but you can have a virtual bookshelf and link to your websites, blog, twitter, etc.
.
I just took a great 5 hour class on it, even though I have beena member for almost 5 years. You can look for jobs on there, and many companies only use this now. You can apply straight off your profile and they see your recommendations from coworkers and clients, achievements, awards, inventions, patents, published works, papers, etc. Ultimate networking.
.
You can join groups, form groups, meet people all over the world for business.
