Even just in small measurements, personal security items could be your best friends when you are faced with immediate danger and each time you are set in a spot or place where you don’t feel secureMini alarms

Why not just make key blanks with an opener on the top

I actually thought of that a long time ago. The thing is... most people have been carrying the same keys for years and years... They aren't going to change the keys unless they absolutely need to. People like new gadgets and that is how I see this item.

If the keys normally would stay attached to something magnetically. A magnetic reed switch inside would remain normally off. When the keys are removed to open a door, an internal countdown timer begins and a 10 second chirp is heard. More time would cause the chirp to increase in frequency (like a ticking time bomb) until 2 chirps a second are heard. Replacing the keys to the original location would disarm the alarm.
Car keys...? A manual double click disarm/reset button?
or another magnetic piece that hangs near the ignition?

Good ideas. Definitely need a manual disarm feature (in the case of valet parking). I wish I were up on my electronics ... maybe I'll make this my resolution... or not. : )

@Ira -- Thinking about your original suggestion of the key finder. I was trying to eliminate having a separate unit. I did post a link for a credit card transmitter. I don't know if I want to go as far as that - just trying how to keep this as one unit and use a locating feature. Again, the the cost to replace some of these newer keys (as you mentioned), I think the finder is a really good/needed idea.

Voice activation would be great but probably very expensive. The least expensive way would be to attach the key chain to a cell phone....lose your keys and make a phone call. or is it possible to have the street defender serve a dual purpose....emit a sound when pressed (personal defense) and emit a sound as a transmitter.....another option is using the technology of "pay as you use" cellphones (lose your key and have to access retrieval you pay money). Remember loss of keys these day with keyless entry and inserted chip are hundreds of dollars to replace.

I realize everyone is busy working on the green product right now. If you get a chance, give me your thoughts on both a key finder feature and a personal defense alarm. For me, I personally like the idea of an alarm. I don't have one now, and it would be nice considering the fact that I'm toting around two young kids.

Quirks... What do you think about adding personal defense alarm to this snazzy keychain? As a woman, I know I would LOVE this and it would make for a great selling point and broaden the marketing of this so that it's not just another keychain. Here's a link to one site: http://www.streetdefender.com/
They aren't too big and I'm hoping, if you agree, that this could be incorporated into The Best Damn Keychain Ever....

Quirks... I know very little about electronics so I fully admit that I don't know how much 'stuff' we can fit into this handy dandy keychain. Ira above suggested a keychain finder. I found a sound activated one (using a shout or clap) at following site:

Do you think that instead of emitting a beep, a voice can announce "Keys over here...Keys over here" or something like that when owner of the keys says something like "Find Keys" ??? The thought of a beep going off at every loud shout or clap, would get annoying.
