Unless you have buckets of credit cards, this problem can be (and is already) solved with software. If you're on a mac, just use the app called 1Password! No hardware required.

I like this idea -- swipe when you want to pay. First, will it keep you from having to enter any details? Maybe it should be combined with form filling software so that when you swipe your card, your billing and shipping info automatically get entered too.

If it filled in all information, maybe $40 isn't too much -- but for just reading the credit card, it seems a bit high.

Hmmm. I think I'm happy to enter the card details myself - I could envisage plugging the thing in and getting it to talk to the website taking longer than it does to enter the card details.

For home use, I use virtual credit cards available from Citi Bank for free. The software application lets me create a virtual credit card with unique numbers and security codes. More importantly it lets me choose the expiration date and a credit limit. The software app also fills in the fields on a web page. I like this solution because if someone hacks an online vendor and gets my Virtual Credit Card number chances are the card is expired and the amount of available credit left will be small. For example if I paid Quirky $99 to post an idea, I would create a card for $100 and limit the expiration to be good for only two months. I don’t know how hackable the app is, but would imagine it to be pretty solid. I’m more concerned with keyboard capture virus capturing logins and password and possible typed in credit card numbers.

I like the idea, but I don't know if I would currently buy it. I haven't had a moment yet where I'm frustrated with the time spent to input credit card info (though sometimes the online ordering and "cart" system for merchants overall gets to me). I'm more concerned about fraud and theft, and I don't believe this item would address that (if I'm wrong let me know). I'm not sure how big the market would be for this. Good luck though!

IT is good to have a microUSB or USB version so it can target to bigger audience.

I disagree with Dan and some of the others that don't see a place for this. The increase of privacy concerns and consumer protection will only increase. I like the idea of not having credit card info being stored in my browser or in any kind of auto-fill file on my PC.

I do think the price point would be a tad high.. I could see getting it in the 20-30 dollar range though.

I'd also like to point out that consumers have increasingly used tools that were previously only business oriented. For example, for years stores could scan and electronically process checks, but no reasonable priced solution was available for consumers until fairly recently. Since available they have had a load of use in the consumer market (ie a bank's iphone app that can deposit a check from one's iphone had well over 1500 deposits made with it in it's first 24 hrs live).

    I'd get something like this.

I agree with Dan...there's already products like this on the market. It seems like this is more of a software solution so that the data will autofill. To be honest though, I'm not at all interested in a product like this and the price point seems way too high. I'd rather just type in my 16 digits, expiration date and 'secret code.' I still have to type in my address anyway (it's not stored on the card).
