JustInCase: iPhone Case with incorporated USB/Electrical plug (already patent pending!)
The Problem
Ever have your iPhone (or any cell phone, really) out and about, at work, on travel, or just away from home and suddenly--the battery is dead?! And you have no way to recharge the battery because, of course, you don't carry a charging cord with you. That's way too much of a hassle. And isn't it a pain to have to buy multiple cords, one for the house, one for work, and another one because you just lost one of those? It's aggravating, but I've got an innovative solution--one that truly hasn't been done before (and I have a pending patent to prove it!).
The Solution
With my invention, you will always have a charging cord with you! The cord fits neatly into the back of your cell phone case, and you simply pull it out (like a vacuum cleaner cord) when you need it, and let it retract back into the case when you are not charging. Now, you can charge your phone virtually anywhere, and you never have to worry about your phone dying while you are away from home (and an added bonus...no more losing those darned charger cords, and no need for multiple cords, at home, at work, etc.) I thought an iPhone case would be a good place to start, but it will work with any portable device case. I am attaching a pic of a design concept, as well as a PDF that lets you see a concept case in 3D on 3 axes! Let's go Quirks--this one's a guaranteed success in retail! This is patent pending, and if this wins, I will sign over the patent to Quirky. Patent = no one else can create cases like these for decades. We'd essentially corner the entire market!
Key Features
- Cord fits neatly inside the case via a spring loaded mechanism that make it retractable
- No more losing your charging cord, and no more dead cell phone because you don't have one with you.
- I have a pending patent on this, which I will sign over to Quirky if selected.
- The patent covers ALL mobile electronic devices: iPhones/cell phones, PDAs, smart phones, gaming devices, MP3 players, tablets, etc.
- With a patent, Quirky can corner the market and have ZERO competitors: a virtual cash cow!
Product Comparison
- It's a portable electronics case, but with a unique twist

You have my vote--great idea
You got my vote. This is a winner for sure.
@Shawnee--LOL! I know, these products seem to dominate, but there is good reason--they are the only things that SELL. It's great to have a bunch of creative product ideas, but if you take a look at the items in Pre-Sales and the items in Sales, you'll see that every single one of the latter is technology related. And many of them went to Sales in just days (as opposed to many non-tech items in Pre-Sales which have languished for months there). The whole point of Quirky is to design products that people will buy. There are plenty of sites where you can just post creative product ideas (http://www.halfbakery.com/ for example), but if we want people to buy our products we have 2 options as I see it: create technology-related products which we know will sell, or 2. figure out another way to market products where non-tech stuff will sell too. The latter is much more complicated and expensive, but perhaps if Quirky has enough tech winners, they can then subsidize marketing for other products. (PS, love the kitty pic :) ) @Patricia and Ian, thanks for the ideas! Keep 'em coming--still a few more hours to go!
Just use a fold flat plug for the plug to the power outlet to save space. The usb can be made fold-able too to save space on the cords and plug body itself.
Good grief; I am getting so sick of the iPhone / Apple accessories. Maybe somebody should submit this product idea: a yuppie-friendly duffel bag to carry around all your iPod/iPhone/MacBook accessories.
Thanks Brendan--I really appreciate your ideas and enthusiasm :) Just 8.5 hours to go everyone! Please vote, vote, VOTE for your favorite idea!
@Renny Yeah I am sorry lol it was pretty immature of me to say that i was really tired when i said that and I thought that there was only 20 minutes left. I just got caught up in the excitement and I apologize to everyone. And actually I don't even know Scott. Once again I am sorry to everyone!
Thanks for your response, Brendan. I guess when we get really passionate about our products, we can temporarily "lose it." ;)
Best of luck! Cheers.
Thanks Renny! Actually, I've never met Brandon before submitting this--he's obviously an avid fan and I appreciate his and everyone else's input! :) There are definitely some great ideas for this round (it's kind of a shame the way the system works that only 1 per round can win, rather than the best ideas over a longer period of time). So please vote your hearts people, whether it's for my idea or one you think is better (or both)! When all's said and done, we're one community with the same goal--come up with innovative ideas and see them through to (hopefully) a successful new product. And best of luck to you as well Renny!!
@ Brendan... That's way uncool to tell others to remove their votes on others' ideas (not that they would listen to you, anyways). There are many great ideas, here, as Scott has said. I'm hoping that you didn't want this so badly that you gave everyone a 1 for everything, just to "secure the win."
That's not what Quirky's about. I'm sure Scott would agree. It's clear you're a close friend of his, and that's all good, but you're actually hurting him when you do this kind of stuff.
If this idea doesn't win, it's not because it's not a great one. In fact, I voted for it myself, AND I paid my dues for a submission in this round.
Plus, it's not necessarily the most votes that win... I don't believe that's how it works. I could be wrong. We're here to support each other and help Tiny Dino along, not dictate his decisions.
As it says on top, "we're all in this together..."
Good luck to Scott and everyone! :)
If you only use a USB and attached it on top - it could make the iPod slightly longer, and not much thicker than the flat cable.
