Design time: we’ll start you off with nine drawings based off of Michael’s original concept.
This project is open for submissions, so give us three good ones…> go
RECAP:
When you need that extra desk space, and want to avoid placing things on top of your keyboard, then use the Multipurpose Keyboard Garage. It keeps your desk neat, your keyboard covered, and gives you more room when not using the computer. It also has easy access USB ports. The top of the unit is great for holding your digital camera, flash drives (split stick), cell phone and keys. The Keyboard Garage can easily slide under most computer monitors allowing for maximum desk space. What else? It can also work with your laptop. Under, over, or use it directly on your lap to avoid the heat. It protects from spills. (are ya gettin’ this camera guy?) There’s even small storage space and a lights inside when used with a powered USB port.
I'm sure that all would agree that the final design must be eye appealing. It needs to stand out with absolute coolness and be functional as an un-cluttering USB hub. Small features such as the lighting and the SD card port can add coolness with hopefully the least added cost. The dry erase feature could maybe be a future feature from Ian Patrick's dry erase post-it notes. An aluminum top will add both strength for monitor support and heat-sink absorbing ability for laptops.
I have to admit that no single design (even my own) has my full satisfaction. I trust that the Quirky headquarters team will come up with a great choice, and if we need another level of picks direct from the team (without submissions) I would be in agreement.
Thanks to all for your time, designs and comments.
Good luck to all!
-Mike
I stuck with the same basic design because there are no moving parts or parts that are removed. Moving parts tend break, so no moving parts make a more durable product.

I forgot to put it in the back view, but the cord would come out of the middle of the unit as shown on the top view in the first diagram.
