Most people insert standard toothpicks to raise aluminum or plastic wraps off the surface of foods when wrapping leftovers. But the toothpick's pointed design isn't conducive to the task. When using plastic wrap or aluminum foil to wrap leftovers, it's best to not have it come into contact with the food. Foods with acid-based tomato ingredients, such as ketchup or BBQ sauce, should not come into contact with aluminum, as it will eat away at the foil. Desserts with frostings or decorative toppings are best when wrapped without the covering touching.
