Cancer and other diseases can cause kidney loss or failure. If this occurs, a patient's waste or urine needs a place to go. If this is the case, a procedure called a nephrostomy is performed. In today’s 2012 medical industry, this procedure and the end result is pretty barbaric. A nephrostomy is an artificial opening created between the kidney and the skin which allows for the urinary diversion directly from the upper part of the urinary system. The urine is then captured in a bag that is velcroed to the patient’s leg. In fact, as you will see in one of my pictures, the current nephrostomy bag manufacture suggests using Velcro to strap the bags to your leg. These bags on the leg are uncomfortable, embarrassing, and annoying to people in this unfortunate situation. I am not pitching a cure here; I am pitching the idea of living better when the cards are not in your favor. That is all any of us can try to do.

My invention has worked on real life patients. My grandfather lost his battle with cancer about three years ago, but he suffered with kidney function loss about two years before he passed. This invention was created to help him live a normal, active life style. In fact, with this invention, he even continued to play golf even 3 weeks before his passing. The invention is simple. We used a pair of boxer briefs and sewed pockets into the inside front of them for these bags to rest within boxer briefs. What makes us different from normal “pocket” underwear is that a hole is created at the bottom of each pocket for bag or urine drainage. Two buttons on each pocket also work with the bags to keep them securely in place within the pocket. These special boxer briefs are cheap to produce and can have astronomical benefits to patients. Please view the pictures below for the working prototype. I have also attached a flyer with the product and a insert from the bag manufacturer on how to "install" these bags on your leg. This will allow you to see the current standard of this before someone uses my product.
