Collapsible / Fully-Functional Hanging File System that Fits Under the Bed (U.S. PATENT #7,517,028) [Resubmit]

Submitted by: Jeff Hand

The Problem

Most people don't have enough room to store all of their paperwork, documents, etc. Having a large file cabinet in a small house or apartment is often unsightly and impractical. File cabinets are difficult to move and take up valuable floor space. There needs to be a way to effectively organize and safely store documents that is also portable and easily accessible.

The Solution

The Fold-A-File combines the organization of a fully functional hanging file system with the space saving benefits of under-bed storage. It is lightweight, portable, and uses standard hanging files which can be inserted / removed just like a normal hanging file. The hanging files lean back when the user is done filing, allowing the Fold-A-File to fit under a bed, furniture, or other small space. To use it again, the user simply pulls the front handle and the files go upright again.

Key Features

  • Saves valuable floor space
  • Slides along any surface and can be transported for use in any room or in an emergency
  • Completely concealed under the bed for safe storage and privacy

Quick Note: This product used to have wheels (as also suggested by many when I submitted it last month) but the national retailer who wanted to carry it believed it would be more versatile for all bed sizes by simply sliding. I didn't have the funds to manufacture a large order, so that's why I'm hoping Quirky picks it up. They also rejected the cardboard version, so that is also an alternative embodiment that may work, but simply wasn't including because of feedback from a retailer.
