A better ice pack to custom fit any body part.

Submitted by: Beth Lowgren

The Problem

Ice packs are awkward. They don't quite fit right, and many are too cold to the touch, too big, too hard to keep in place, or cold where you don't want it to be cold. We never know where on our body the next injury might be on our body. Some ice packs are highly specialized - like for the knee or elbow. But unless you have already been to the doctor, you aren't likely to have the ideal ice pack on hand when you have that kind of an injury.

The Solution

Typical daydreamer, I bonked myself on the leg as I was walking along thinking about something. As I sat icing myself, frustrated because the ice pack kept slipping, I started thinking about 3D modeling software and how it uses basic shapes in order to contour complex curves. The mesh is composed of quads, and within that triangles. Triangles are rather more elemental than these rectangular shapes.

Would a triangle shaped ice pack contour my body better than a rectangle with 90 degree corners?

Yes!

It's not exactly solving global warming, but by using triangles instead of rectangles for our ice packs, we can get more precise local cooling.

What would this look like on the shelf? A pack of three (of course!) triangular shaped ice packs with a 4-legged strap composed of the same material.

Key Features

  • Triangular shape of ice pack
  • Velcro edges to build the shape you need, and a strap to hold it all in place
  • Soft fabric gentle on skin

Product Comparison

  • Knee/elbow ice packs
  • Doughnut shaped ice pack for breastfeeding
