Ice cube trays are a pain! We've all done it...after you fill the tray you try and carry it oh so steadily to the freezer and darn if it doesn't spill. Not to mention all the times cold water has spilled on you when taking out not fully frozen. Then after it freezes, you have to rinse over running water (whats the point in freezing drinking water) to easier crack the ice and put in a tray or glass (more than the needed cube pops out), and an ice cube (or 3 or 4) always drops on the floor. Then you have a ice tray that everyone is sticking their hands in and mauling over the same ice cubes spreading germs. Not to mention the amount of space ice cube trays take up in the freezer! It's time for a change.
Ice Tubes! Flexible silicone tubes that you can easily fill with water. These tubes could be made of 1 piece of Silicone, or they could have ridges in them and come with little plastic disc inserts, so you can adjust the size of your ice cubes at will. Want a big block to last longer in a cooler or something, don't add any disks. Want bigger cubes than usual? Add disks every other ridge. Want smaller cubes? Add all the discs. No more spilling water transferring from sink to freezer. Tube changes color when frozen so no guessing, no spilling. Then simply take the tube and crack and perfect little cylinders are ready to "pop" into your drink (perhaps you can even crush for crushed ice???) No more falling cubes on the floor...no more cubes that can't fit into your favorite water bottle, NO MORE HASSLE! Since they are skinny and long they can be places in odd places in freezer or just pack and stack them in the ice tray section, take up all the space you have available for ice making. Another use would be to put in ice chest to keep food cold but can also consume ice if needed.
