Portable is key!
Both options should be available. If you want it in the classroom for young children, it should be on the bigger side - easier for young children to use, more durable, and harder to lose the pieces. (i.e. disappearing into pockets if the pieces are really cool)
For home use, stationary for durability, and portable for travel. All depends on the situation. Just like Scrabble, people with larger storage may prefer larger boards. Those with smaller places, might prefer more portable boards.

My house is a box for pieces. Please, something that keeps it organized would help. A box or bag for the pieces. Magnetic would be really cool and I might pay more for that (although then the pieces would make their way to the refrigerator!). I don't think I'd travel with it - keeping track of pieces on the road would give me a migrane. 10 x 10 to 14 x 14 (will it be square or rectangular?).
