I think it's a great idea. But it might be better to have it designed as part of an overall case. Probably more for the 'appearance' of being more secure.

    Mike-

Thanks for that thought! I think that the strap idea might be better than a "glove" since it gives a one-size-fits-all flexibility and lets both left and right-handed users operate with ease. The elastic band actually fits tightly around the back of the hand (see photo above for example). I have used industrial strength Velcro on several heavy-duty applications and it is VERY secure. This also allows each person to use their case of choice. Your thoughts?

    Micah-

Love the idea of expanding this to the iPhone. I don't use my iPhone as much for gaming, so appreciate your insight here. Thanks!

I don't have an iPad yet, so I'm not sure about the potential there, but I've wanted something like this for the iPhone ever since it first came out. Anybody that plays games on the iPhone (and games are HUGE on the device) has to simultaneously balance the device with some fingers while using thumbs to control the game--control accuracy is reduced and dropping the device is a real risk. But an elastic strap for one or two fingers on the back of the device (perhaps attached to a case?) would secure the iPhone to the hand, making it more stable and much easier to control, especially during fast-paced play. I'll also admit to wishing for this so that when I'm in the tub reading blogs on my iPhone, I wouldn't have to worry about dropping it in the water!

An iPhone strap would probably be easier to implement than an iPad version (given the device is much lighter), and there are LOTS more iPhone users so the immediate market potential would be much larger. A successful iPhone version could then be leveraged into the iPad market.

I think if you focus more on the strap element of this, it could be a winner: It should be more of a glove, so you know your hand has a firm grip; and as others have mentioned, it obviously needs to be integrated into a whole case wrap so everyone feels firmly that its not detaching from the ipad.

This could enable you to hold the ipad above your head, if you're using it in bed, and still use your right hand to type on it -- without fear of it falling, or needing to use two hands to hold it.

After that if it ended up incorporating other stand functionality, that could be a bonus: But I think you can have a huge win focusing on the glove/single hand ergonomic holding of the device.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

The beauty of this concept is that it can be used with just about ANY case that the owner prefers, especially some of the lightweight hard cases. I have also seen the BARNACLE concept and feel that this idea might be integrated into it. The only potential issue I see with that is that a suction cup attachment might not be stable enough to assure that it's going to stay put.

With a Barnacle attachment, the elastic strap could be run through a Barnacle "top" and a stylus holder could be integrated as well with a "flip out" function to act as a kickstand as well.

Poor Matt F must be grinding his teeth. He really tried hard to get a similar handle onto the Cloak.

I agree that the iPad is heavy enough that it needs a handle but I don't know if this is the answer.

You will always have it in a case... So this needs to be an add on for a case.

I totally agree with you Jayson. I am actually writing this from my iPad right now and as it sets I don't think I would buy it for the sole reason that it doesn't incorporate a case. The iPad doesnt feel like it would really stand up to much. Although if you go to youtube and watch"will it blend" with the iPad it actually does take him a few tries to get it to break in half. Anyway, if you could integrate this into a tough case i think that would be better for field use. That would then put the iPad into the category with Panasonic's Tough series. I really do like the idea of having a handle though.

A holder for a capacitive stylus is a good idea, but as an iPad owner, I would never take such an expensive device out "in the field" without a protective case.
