I like this idea. I frequently burn my noodles... An easy to set alarm for "cooking noodles" would be awesome. For example, Set temperature to 100 degrees, and trigger alarm 3 minutes after temperature is hit.
Priya, your comment brought a HUGE smile to my face! I am glad that you see the potential of this little idea. I like all your thoughts! Whether the concept is kept simple or features are added I believe it has incredible potential :)
Thanks everyone for your support, this has been so much fun and if it wins I hope you will be just as excited as I am to see the final product. I already have many things in mind to help this product reach threshold :)
I like where this is going! You've already got my vote, but the thread is getting more and more interesting. I like the color coding ideas proposed, and I agree that the material must be non-reactive (I HATE the plasticky taste of even stryofoam cups after insisting on stainless steel or ceramic mugs for several years -- who knows what sorts of chemicals we ingest with those).
Along the lines of Ann Marie's whistling concept, what if it whistled different tunes based on the temperature? Or at least different pitches. This could probably be accomplished with some sort of "fluted" design (pardon the pun) that would reach different levels in the tube and thus force steam through different holes creating different pitches. Just some food for thought.
Color and sound would be neat to incorporate together.
Did I mention I LOVE where this is going? Great idea, Maria!
I understand. Digital thermometers look just like thermometers, not very appealing to the eye and definitely would not make cute gifts and I would not buy one for myself.
Hi Maria, sorry I was just trying to understand the "added value" of your product, wasn't trying to cause trouble. Actually my point was to suggest the use of an electric thermometer maybe. I have a tiny and cheap one at home that measures temperature with the click of a button within seconds. Maybe a redesign aimed at coffee lovers would market it quite well for coffee-shop use...
" There are temperature sensitive products like the old "hyper-color" t-shirts that could be used to make a simple bendable stick with a printed temperature gauge. (Think the old Gumby toy). This would eliminate the need for any electronics and could make the whole think much cheaper.
If it could be made to be dishwasher and microwave safe, I think you have something that may be in every kitchen in a few years time.
Novelty is one thing but something you can actually use could be very strong on the shelves at cooking stores."
If we wanted to we could also add any of the features that the other members have suggested. This would make a very cute gift for the coffee or tea lover, I would rather given them this and use this myself rather than a thermometer :)
Sandro, please read all comments above. Not trying to be disrespectful, but you could also just buy the products like yours that already exist. A product for this does not exist, please take the time and read comments above. Hey, we could also use a normal cordless phone as a cell phone, but it does not look very attractive does it? Thanks however for taking the time to post :)
I have really enjoyed this opportunity, I had fun!
Why wouldn't a simple thermometer work? They are very small, on the market and easy to use and set if need be...all the information you would need to not burn yourself can be read off the scale right away!
Jason, I forgot to mention, I like the idea of a simple stick that is bought in a pack of many. I like however more the idea of a non disposable stick. Please look at Anne Marie's Comment:
"Making a throwaway seems silly if you can sell the device to the coffee shops, restaurants and for home use. People can indicate their preferred temperature and check it there.
Let's not make another novelty item and create one of longer life and built in value. Let's make it something for Starbucks, William Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, not a drive thru. We've seen how well the cardboard rings to keep your hand from getting too hot from the cups went over, this could replace them."

Edward, glad you like it! It will be so fun to work on the design and what features it will have. Thanks for the support!
