VEMO: Leave a voice or video reminder and get things done. [VIDEO]

Submitted by: JARED JOYCE

The Problem

Hey Quirksters, I have been praised in the past by the Quirky community for my excellent communication in my product submissions. This week I partnered with another fellow Quirk, Hans Damkoehler (of Cradle fame) to help me produce the product video, and the quality has never been better! If you like the video support Hans and pre-order a Cradle. If you like the Vemo support me and vote for this submission. :-)

The Solution

Depending on the desired execution and price point the Vemo could either be done with just audio as shown in the video, or the Vemo could be done with an audio video screen delivering the memo. Which would you prefer? Just audio? With Video?

There is no real problem being solved. That's the main concern i have with this idea.

Besides the new generation of fridges already have a screen, memorecorder etc etc in it. For us folks not yet there ..well a piece of paper and a fridge magnet does the same....for ages!

You're already saying its all about the marketing. That's a whole other ballgame.

I think there are possibilities with light + sound in the fridge...I think you should explore this further.

    Keep up the good work!

    Cheers,

    Paco

frankly, i really dont think so. IMHO the idiator should come with an original idea. I think you push this pretty far, dont you? giving an existing product and ask for a clever packaging twist which then will do the trick.

If this gets thru we will have mp3player, netbooks, lightbulbs and wheels in the next run longing for unique positioning.

    just my 2 cents tho.

I checked out all of your links and I see your point - the technology already exists in the market today. However, I think that you're failing to see my point - it's never the invention it's the marketing.

You said in your comments that Quirky should focus on unique stuff. I agree with you. However, unique doesn't always mean brand new patentable inventions. Unique can mean a new packaging, positioning, and presentation of an existing technology. That's what I'm proposing this week.

Quirky is the best company to take on this project specifically because of there creative and empowered user community. The power of the people will be a key difference when it comes to this product's success.

    or

i dont want to make this done. but its there! you can out them in fridges, bathrooms, garages, closets, drawers, kitchens. whatever.
i think quirky should really focus on unique stuff.

I just thought of another use - positive affirmations! You walk into the bathroom in the morning, flip on the lights, and you're greeted with, "You are great!"

    Or something like that...

Very strange. I'm new to this site because I had an idea of a device that could be attached to a product in the refrigerator, an expiration date entered, and the light sensor would announce when a product was about to expire. There must be some sort of collection unconscious going on...

Nice idea, Jared. I would keep it as simple as possible. Go with just the audio, and allow for multiple attachments to save space. We use up just about all the shelf space in our fridge, so something that can hang, clip, or attach in some other fashion would be good. Good luck!

Looks like it is possible after all. http://www.drinkstuff.com/products/product.asp?SearchField=fridge%20guard&ID=5462

    lol this could be fun.

Just not sure how well frozen batteries will work though, if I want to put it next to my ice-cream!

The technology is proven to work fine based on its implementation in different novelty products (discussed above - about 22 comments up) that are currently on the market.
