Light-Up Tap Bands are a pliable, stretchy, clear band that have a light-up "tap" in the middle of the band. The "tap" part of the band will be similar to the metal tapper on regular tap shoes. Just slip the band on over your regular shoes and start tap dancing away! The lights could emit from the sides of the tap with push sensor batteries and LEDs or some similar light.
No need to buy several expensive traditional tap shoes as your child grows - these Light-Up Tap Bands stretch and will fit on larger size shoes as your child grows!
Light-Up Tap Bands will have a relatively low price point. Tap shoes generally cost between $40 to $100 for one pair. The material that the "taps" are made of can be decided in the design phase and will be soft enough not to mark up floors but still emit the traditional tap sound. We could have 2 size band options - one band size to fit kids and one band size to fit adults. The lights do not need to be incorporated into the tap - this can be made without the light feature. This band could be either a one piece that has a front and back tap, or two separate bands that have a tapper piece. A person could wear either one band (with the 2 taps) on each foot or two bands (with one tap on each band) on each foot depending on what the community prefers for the final design.
NOTE: This ideation will be self-submitted to U.C. on or about August 10. This account does not vote on ideations or make comments on other ideations. I took the above picture with my iPhone at the grocery store. Collaboration is welcome!
From Teresa: Music can be included in the taps, either as a download or songs built into the taps themselves. Rhythm - beats - can also be selected by the dancer, such as jazz, hip hop, etc.
Bear.R suggests: They can have shapes that the light emits through, such as hearts, stars or flowers.
From Hoa Tran: I think it would be more interesting if we could create different tapping tone such as bass and treble in one pair or in different pairs. Imagine one pair of shoes will be able to create a interesting duet tapping sound and the mix of many pairs tapping in the same time will make incredible musical tapping sound.
