Let me repost Seth Kirkendall's idea. He accidently posted it to another project but I think it is very important.
"James Bond had a rolex with a fruit slicer built in. It seemed to work wonders on henchmen, but he needed both hands to use it. Luckily henchmen's melons don't need to be held steady.
Once you start adding a beam to hold the ends apart, you've lost the form factor that made the product appealing. Cheese cutters exist which look somewhat like coping saws. They would be cumbersome to store whole, but one which folds is plausible and would be sufficient for most foods."
Christi -- Great idea with the cutting board. I think blunt metal spikes would work better. (Not sharp enough to cut you, but if you push a melon on it it will stick.
Andrew -- You are ridiculous. I think Ethan was just making his point, and you took it waay to far.
I love the concept, very cool and this is totally the kind of fad product that will sell like hotcakes if marketed correctly.
So you need something that helps it stay on the counter while you slide the wire -- what if it was sold with a cutting board that has a set of plastic spikes? Sharp enough to stick the rind down on it, but not sharp enough to cut someone. Or it could be a little clip that attaches to your cutting board with the spikes... like a binder clip with the spikes.

it is a very good idea but i think that u can put a little more detail onto your invention and illistration
Congrats!
Well its over now! Good luck to all the projects!
Seth and Davis -- Maybe it could be a telescoping saw (The blade is still cheese wire, but the top of the saw part is telescoping.

I would put holes in the plastic casing so that water and soap in the dishwasher can get inside and clean the wire. Holes also help with the grip.
Make it dishwasher safe!
You must really like melons?
