recap of what the split stick is meant to be:
-————————————————-

It´s always a good idea to keep office and privacy SEPERATED.
Let them have there stuff and keep yours to yourself
This USB Stick makes it all pretty easy. Forget about partions and else.
This Stick has two sides. Basically its two USB Sticks glued together.
One side is yours. The other one is theres.

Here´s one i roughly “designed” – It comes with a “Me!” and “Them.” side to clearly show who is asigned to which end.

Never worry to mix up data again. Or those folks in meetings reviewing your data a stumbling across veryveryinterstingpic.jpg or ohmygod.avi while you upload a powerpoint. ;)

Simple slider.
Center position covers both end.
Then just slide the side you need.

Colors i just dont know ;)

This one seems most feasible. There's the 2 color (or 2 finish) outer housing case with window for sliding, then the solid, two-ended memory stick with the ability to move to expose one side or the other. I like that it seats midway with no exposed connector.

The colors I would suggest are matte black and aluminum, as these appeal to most technology consumers. Metallics are elegant. The aluminum could be switched out for bright colored metallics. (See http://www.pantone.com/pages/flashdrives/product.aspx for color ideas)

On the other side could be the nomenclature, stamped in black on one side and silver (or compatible metallic) on the other. Below are some ideas. Not all for people who have the concern for privacy... a selection could be offered...
    A / B
    1 / 2
    X / 0
    Me / Not Me
    Public / Private
    Yes / No
    Final / In Progress
    Work / Hmmm

Would be great if the drives came pre-named to match the nomenclature, just in case someone absent-mindedly slid in the wrong side while giving a presentation.

This could also be solved with icons. Think smiley face (or bored face) / surprised face.

    Isn't this fun?

to John: Sandisk Crusers are great slide in slide out USBs. I have 4 myself because I hate USBs with caps.

I agree with Sarah that it would be cool if you could have personalized labels somehow.

I think the problem with this would be that the whole inner workings, chips and all would have to move with the end as it slid in and out. I think this would make it a bit unstable and cause it to break easier. would be brilliant if it could be made strong enough though. Just cant help thinking that this is why no one has produced a slide in/out design even for a single model.

I like this design, but with the addition of Ben's idea of interchangeable/customizable pictures (or words). This can work with Marc's design so that only one picture shows at a time, depending on the position of the slider. This, along with the color coding makes it idiot proof! I also like that there are no separate pieces to lose--I believe this aspect is very important to the product, no matter what design is chosen.

Yes, a different color scheme would make it better! Maybe Red and Cerulean? Or, other opposite-end-the-spectrum matches? (i.e. orange and blue, etc.)
