BANANA BONNETS keep bananas fresh longer. Slow down the ripening process by separating bananas from the bunch and capping the stems.

Submitted by: Laura Doty

The Problem

It's hard to keep bananas from going bad after just a day or two.

The Solution

Banana Bonnets are caps that fit tightly onto the stems of individual bananas. They are stretchy and pliable (silicone? rubber?) so they form a tight seal around the banana stem. Bananas release ethylene, a gaseous plant hormone, that stimulates ripening. It's been proven that you can slow down the ripening process by separating bananas from the bunch and wrapping each stem with plastic wrap. By capping off the banana stems you will slow down the release of ethylene and, therefore, slow down the ripening of the bananas. http://lifehacker.com/5967424/keep-bananas-fresh-longer-by-separating-them-and-wrapping-the-stems-in-plastic-wrap Banana Bonnets simplify this process. Reusable Banana Bonnets will save you the time and expense of individually wrapping each stem. Just pop on a Banana Bonnet! The Banana Bonnet can also have a hook/loop on the closed end, allowing the individual bananas to remain suspended from a banana hanger.

Key Features

  • Quick and easy way to keep bananas from getting too ripe.
  • Reusable. Use over and over again.
  • Saves time and money -- faster than wrapping each banana in plastic wrap.
