what I need in the morning is not to squeeze something but to actually stand up. if this were a pull up bar, i know running out of bed and hoisting my full weight off the floor would make the snooze bar obsolete.

Gathering some of the comments above, how about a "dock station" that would charge it and sync it with the computer so you could put music on it.

Another option, since clocks have a very low energy consumption, in order to be obligated to exercise every day the crunch alarm could require the movement to get energy, so you must exercise or the battery dies (or maby as an option).

Forcing to people to have to exercise to keep it charged would inevitably end up with a bunch of uncharged devices. A charging plate seems like it would be the best idea.

I'm not sure that being able to put music on it would help much, as it wouldn't take very long to do the exercises.

I think this product needs some sort of permanent plug in function, or it's useless. No one wants to worry about their alarm clock battery going dead. If it fails once it's useless.

How about one of those charger plates that they started making for iPods? It would plug into the wall and would charge the Crunch Alarm when you rest it on the plate. Perhaps there would be a magnetic point of contact to lightly secure it and allow for the charge? Then you'd lift the Crunch Alarm off the plate/pad when the alarm goes off to squeeze it and effectively "snooze" it.

Something that involves standing up and exercising would probably cause more of a problem than doing crunches, so I think crunches is probably the best way to go. Making it rechargeable is a nice idea, either using the crunch motion to power a spring loaded dynamo (like the ones in wind-up torches) or piezo crystals (like in BBQ lighters), both methods would offer the resistance to the user without the need for other mechanical needs.

Perhaps to turn the alarm off you have to charge the clock by a certain amount? This could be done by either a lot of light crunches, or a few hard crunches, it's up to you.

You could set it so that every week or so, the amount of crunches needed to achieve the same result goes up. That way it turns into more of a work out.

I do agree that something a little more active than a hand work out is necessary, however, people should be able to set their own pace, the amount of crunches should not go up automatically. Instead, a person should be able to manually increase the required amount.

this isn't one product its entire universe of products. wanna open the refrigerator crunch, start your car crunch, turn on the TV crunch. How about a crunch remote wanna change the channel no pain no surfing. the possibilities are endless. special hinges to make doors and windows hard to open.

Cool idea. I like the thought about multiple colors. A separate stand is probably a bad idea, as it would impair the portability: better (perhaps) would be to weight the grips and give them a rounded, concave bottom that would tend to keep them balanced. Less is more. Good luck!

I don't find the idea of such a small, targeted exercise being linked to an alarm to be a good interface of either need. To sleepily start squeezing the handpiece will accomplish almost nothing for overall fitness, or wakefulness. I think it's cute, but destined for the yardsale. Sorry! Miranda

I think it's a great idea... clever way to help you wake up when you can't default to hitting that snooze button.

As for wrist injuries... Really? It's not like we're asking people to do 10 squat jumps without a warm up :) I think the tension can be set so that it's safe for a morning squeeze...

I wonder how much it will cost. I was just in Brookstone and didn't see anyone buying "gimicks"

Very good idea, i've already seen the Dumbbell Alarm clock but never heard of hand workout ones.
Here's the dumbbell alarm ones - it may help with marketing as im sure they will both have the same target market
