The idea of a "walking" trash carrier is great. I think the part that is fuzzy has to do with the container size, load safety and ability to physically handle it up and down stairs, durability for the job. After all this is a hauler- a hand truck and not a stroller. The market is probably there in highrise dwellings.
I like your idea, but i think it would be nice if the transporting mechanism were integrated into the trash can, like those bags with wheels and a telescopic handle.
Another thing that would be great is some kind of system that could help to compact the trash inside the trash can.
I feel the need to explain something about this product that aparently i didnt (sorry).
The handle of the trolley is foldable, like a luggage one, because the more extension the handle has, the less you'll hurt your back when you are using it in stairs! you dont have to bound your back.
Plus, this way you can put this inside your house, without the feeling that you have a "sad" object there, because for sad trash cans...we already have those in the market already.
As for rounded designing, i made this style in secondlife.com, and its really hard for me to do rounded things like i wanted this to be in that virtual world, so yes to rounded design. Love it!
I like this idea a lot. I believe it would be more suited to using for my recyclable containers. Once a week I struggle to get the recyclable containers from the garage to the end of the driveway and need to make multiple trips and they are heavy. If a frame concept was used it could be designed to adjust to different sized containers used in different cities and townships. If you incorporated a mini toolkit perhaps containing a box cutter and twine, cardboard boxes and other items needing to be cut to required size could be prepared to meet recyclable requirements.
Is there a way to make the bags for this in some kind of continuous loading system? Sort of like the toilet seat sleeves which rotate out of mechanical toilet seats.....a very long tube of plastic bag materialwould be loaded into the base, and then cranked/zoomed up inside the container, and around over the edge of the liner tube.....on reaching the top edge successfully, a heat-sealing mechanism would 'snip' the bag off at the bottom. Hmm. if this is envisioned as helping the elderly or infirm, I'd say a way round having to change out the bags by lifting out the inner can would be really a nice refinement.
Some thoughts...
1) Use this product strictly for recyclables. No trash.
2) Do not employ a "can". Use disposable garbage bags that can be connected/disconnected to keep the unit clean (no one will want to continually clean a component that is constantly in contact with garbage - smelly, slimy, etc.
3) The roll-away component should be a frame. On top, build a 2x2 square harness over which four garbage bags can be hung. Provide a 2x2 square cover that locks the bags onto the frame. Then you have four square holes into which you can drop for different recyclables. The recyclables collect in each of the four bags - clean and easy to remove when you get to the street/drop point.
4) Someone above mentioned this. Incorporate a square wire frame base into which newsprint, cardboard, etc can be placed. I can also imagine having a square wire "lid" that keeps the garbage bags above from falling down into the cardboard section. This "lid" could also have some rachet feature on it so it can be moved up/down as needed to accommodate more paper or bag recyclables.
The base and the band looks too heavy. Make the base of the trolley minimal as possible and the band to hold the entire can should only be attached by hooks in the back. Regardless of whether this is made of metal or plastic this will greatly reduce scratches. Maybe get rid of the can look completely and go with a frame that will hold a garbage bag. This could stay attached to the rolling device or be able to stand alone.
This might be good for people in condos, for taking trash down the corridor to the chute, but for people in houses, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, we have garbage bins supplied by the city. 3 different ones, all with flip tops and on wheels like that. One each for recyclables, green garbage or compostibles, and for garbage. Each is designed to be hooked on the garbage truck and then automatically lifted and emptied.
I for one think this is an excellent idea. Lets talk simple "trash" and not recyclables - that is another possible invention. I live in a condo and have to take out the trash up about three flights of stairs. I hate holding on to the plastic bags that may or may not have trash goop on it. Gross! This would wonderful for single women. It would need to be
1: Lightweight so that people can haul it and lift it up easier.
2: Made more attractive with less rough corners. I would prefer to look at a much more rounder shape. The handles should be rounded as well making it much more areodynamic and safe for hauling. It could come in different attractive colors like the cute ipods do.
3: You should consider some sort of latch, to keep the garbage lid shut while hauling.
4: You could also consider, making this garbage system out of a canvas and then making it into a sort of garbage backpack. Things are always easier to haul when you can strap it on your back. The canvas could be lined with some sort of waterproof liner and the lid could be zipped down. This would solve many issues and I don't think I have seen anything like this in any store. Another plus would be that you could then wash your garbage can in the washing machine instead of having to go outside and rinse it out with a hose. Hoses are difficult to find in a condo by the way.

what if it had a built in trash can? That way you could put more than one trash bag in it at once.
