We’re looking for input and submissions from people who have used a sling in the past or who can interview & get in contact with someone who has:
This project may get a little messy as we have never structured a conversation like this (and we usually tell people not to), but we need the input so we’re giving this a shot.

1. What was the most annoying thing about the arm sling?
2. What was the best thing about it?
3. If you could improve the arm sling what would you do to achieve this?
4. Was your arm sling comfortable or uncomfortable and why?
5. What other useful features besides a pocket would you like to see on an arm sling that would make life easier?
My bff's answer: 3) I had three arm slings. One didn't have any padding in the shoulder strap and cut into my neck. The second one was soft and stretchy - but too stretchy - my heavy cast hung down around my waist. The third was a combination of the two and was perfect.
Something like this strap would be comfotable for kids because of the neck padding which is the most common problem (note the decorated sling also): http://www.jansenmedical.net/images/T/t-4766-3363.jpeg

The strap could also be wider or thicker. Padding has to be placed strategically, which limits the adjustability of the strap.
I would add a removable pad between my body and the cast, so that the weight wouldn't be all on my shoulder.
