Jot Tape: Measuring Tape with integrated white board for jotting down measurements and quantities on the tape measure itself.

Submitted by: Dan McVeagh

The Problem

The Solution

While measuring a piece of wood to cut it is often difficult to remember measurements. Often a piece of paper and pencil are not available or are left at the cutting spot. Digital tape measures can be expensive and don’t always give the correct measurement for the cut. My invention incorporates a whiteboard and dry erase marker in the tape measure to easily jot down measurements and quantities. When finished with the measurement just wipe away the dry erase board with eraser head on the marker to start a fresh measurement. My invention provides the convenience of digital tape measures at a lower cost and with more precision because the measurement can be exact.

Key Features

  • A Tape measure with the ability to quickly jot down measurements with the integrated white board and dry erase marker.
  • The measurements are available to be written on the tape measure itself.

Thanks for the comments and product improvement suggestions. I'm glad the quirkster community is so open to making great new products. Best of luck to all the inventors and influencers!

this is a great idea, you could make the side have number dials like a briefcase lock, so someone could dial in the the measurement (no pencil to lose, or maker to dry up) you could fit maybe 3 rows of dials for more than one measurement.

I like this suggestion, it could make it easier for people to understand measurement scales.

Why not make the tape itself writeable, so that you could mark and annotate your measurements directly on to the tape?

That's something I do natually so it could work out for the user cause he or she would have to know the difference between the fractions of a measurement. Very nice.

I really like the fact that you can have the dry/erase marker inside the tape measure. Would you possibly provide/sell replacement markers for those that have gone dry or lost? Could there also be alternative colors in markers?

I've had this idea for a couple years now, but this is my first submission to Quirky. I wish this site was around then cause I would have submitted it earlier.

The first thing I see happening is either the marker will dry out or get lost. Probably lost. I often just write the measurement down on the wood I am about to cut.

Nice, but what else could be added to the tape measure, that hasn't been done yet!

The measuring tape is def something the quirk community could put through the pipes, has changed much since invention. Like the white board idea, wonder what else you could add to a measuringtape
