Add a detachable tray so we can prepare drinks, snacks, ashtray, cigarette with lighter holder while in the kitchen and just put on the lap with a velcro or plastic buckle to secure the tray that's on it.

If possible, I suggest to make it inflatable (to bring to the beach or outdoor) and floatable (to use while in the pool).

    Suggested Name: Beanie Waiter.

If spilling is that much of an issue for you when you are sitting in a beanbag then you may be better suited drinking out of a sippy cup/water bottle/nalgene bottle. I think a lid is the simple answer to this problem.

Yup, I've made and sold this idea using rocks or marbles as a weight and a ceramic, non-stick surface for the cup. People love them and have come back to me for more.

They don't prevent spilling, as only a Sippy Cup would do that. But, they do enable a drink to remain by your side on a couch or chair arm of any width equal to or greater than 2 inches.

I think you're marketing this wrong. You can sell anything if you market it to the right people.. Hello, Snuggie?

This would be a great camping tool. It could keep drinks stable and from getting dirty when you have to sit on the ground. People could use it for picnics. You could design a wine-glass holder perhaps.

Maybe it's a cup 'stabilizer' you place next to your computer to ensure it doesn't spill on your keyboard.

The couch thing - like Stephen Chan said - people could just use their coffee table...

Creating necessity is the best way to sell a product that isn't a true necessity. (E.g. God forbid you have to answer your phone while you're wearing a blanket and expose your arm...ahem Snuggie.) Find the best way to do that and you're golden.

    Best of luck.

Ooh! Ohh! Mr Kotter I want one! Every night I place my drink on a tv tray so I don't mess up my couch with a drink that spills. If your couch is so weak as to dip so badly when you sit on it, odds are you don't care what your couch looks like any way.

I suggest a swivel holder that can auto correct itself when the couch is sat on or depressed when rising up off it. It would only swivel left or right where most couch depression occurs.

you can add some watter or come oil to the base of the cup/can holder, in a way that it can still tilt but positively against the way you move it, so it can stay in balance. The oil have to be protected of spill in case of a real accident. Great idea, I need one of those.

I like the basic idea, but I have to agree with jeanne - would I actually buy it? Nope. How would I clean it? Where to store it? How many times would I actually use it? Sorry, Ken.

I've seen ashtrays like this back in the 70s. if it works it will be retro. I wouldn't buy it though. One more thing to store. I keep a little table that is easy to move wherever I sit.

nice - especially in a house with kids and dogs who tend to jump on the furniture!
