    The Problem

Kakum is a minimal, ergonomic accessory for your workspace that eliminates the need for those cumbersome (and often ugly) wrist-supporting mouse pads. Unlike most stationary wrist supports, the lightweight design easily slides with your arm as you move across the desk. Adapted for the most natural and comfortable position of the user’s wrist while using a mouse, the design improves form and prevents hand and wrist strain over long term use.

    The Solution

Kakum has a special form and holes on its straigth face for support comfortable wrist forms. In addition to this, it has two metal strings under edge of surface, so you can adapt its form to your wrist. I think it material should be PP or Polyamid not rubber or other soft material. Because soft materials are not good about humitiy, hygiene and portablety on desks. The Problem

Keeping animals out of the garden is one of the most common challenges gardeners face. It’s not uncommon to find large bites taken out several tomatoes that just the other day appeared “ripe for picking”. Many gardeners give up growing plants altogether due to the frustration and disappointment of having their crop ruined. According to a questionnaire by the Garden Writers Association Foundation, more than 41 million U.S. households (38 percent) grew a vegetable garden in 2009. Protecting what is grown in gardens is a HUGE market! Wildlife netting is commonly considered the most effective way to protect garden plants from those pesky critters. If it is set up to encompass the plants, all animals including deer, squirrels, and rabbits can be prevented from damaging the crops. At the same time it allows rain and bees in! The following link illustrates a large variety of custom made netting enclosures. https://www.google.com/search?q=garden+netting+images&newwindow=1&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=jZS6Udn6IY3Q9gT72oDYDw&ved=0CC8QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=899 However, netting has several drawbacks that make it inaccessible or ineffective for many gardeners: 1) It is cumbersome and time consuming to set up. 2) If set up securely it is difficult for the gardener to gain easy access. 3) Wildlife netting typically comes in rolls that are 8 feet wide. There is no simple way to “sew” sheets together to create a seamless structure. Video Describing the Garden Tent Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab9jrVSDVpw

    The Solution

The Garden Tent made with wildlife netting solves the difficulties associated with garden netting. 1) It is easy to set up like a tent – because it is a tent! 2) It provides easy access to the garden plants with large roll down zipper doors on all four sides of the tent. (Prototype had access on only the front side.) After years of wildlife damage to my garden, I wanted to purchase a garden tent as described above. I went to my local garden store chain, Wal-Mart, Lowes and the internet but could not find what I was looking for. The product with these key features is not available. I am bringing this idea to Quirky so I can buy some of these tents! The Wildlife netting proposed for this tent is very strong yet almost invisible (http://www.greenscapesinc.net/Page64.html). It lets the rain and bees in while keeping unwanted animals out. Wind easily passes through this sturdy netting and this greatly reduces its vulnerability to damage to the tent from the wind. Poles along the bottom perimeter of the tent will help keep the tent stable. These perimeter poles are staked down to secure the tent flush to the ground. An affordable translucent tarp can easily convert the tent to a greenhouse for the shoulder seasons. This means planting can happen earlier in the season and harvest can happen later. The tarp can easily be removed during the warmer summer months. The tents can be made in a variety of sizes. A small tent could be designed especially for Diana W’s “The foldable/retractable Square Meter Garden / Square Foot Garden” currently on Quirky: http://www.quirky.com/ideations/537711 A medium sized tent could protect a raised bed. Larger sizes could protect entire gardens, and possibly even dwarf fruit trees! In response to a couple of the comments during the original submittal I am currently conducting an official test to demonstrate the effectiveness of deer netting against squirrels. The test is being conducted at Critter Control in Shawnee KS. Critter Control is the nation's leading wildlife control firm and the test is being conducted with the assistance of the Shawnee KS Critter Control owner Tom Brungardt who has a Masters in Environmental Biology.http://kansascity.crittercontrol.com/ The test is described in the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8St4rIv_Jc0 So far there has been zero penetration through the wildlife netting. This includes over 58 equivalent test days at Critter control plus 12 test days in my back yard. We are using peanut butter, peanuts, sunflower seeds and cashews as bait. The deer netting is performing successfully with this bait mix which is much more attractive to squirrels than garden fresh tomatoes. I will regularly be providing updates. Lillie Suggestion: Suggest you add a 40 watt bulb option under the greenhouse version and you can also protect your plants from freezing. The top of the structure can have a hook which supports an extension with light...or a ground stake to do the same from the ground. Great advice from a gardening class. (Bob Matulis response: Great idea! This bulb could be controlled by a thermostat turning it on when the temperature gets close to freezing.) Robertswww Suggestion: Include a Stake System that goes around the perimeter of the tent to keep the tent from blowing away and to keep voles, rabbits, etc. from digging under. The ground stakes could either have 2 legs that straddle the perimeter frame, or the perimeter frame could have pre-drilled holes in the tubing every few inches, for inserting the individual stakes and hammering them down into the ground. MichaelS Suggestion: The bottom 6 inches all the way around could be made out of a solid canvas. This would keep the netting from snagging on lawnmower tires, and keep dogs from trying to walk into the netting.

    The Problem

All through the history of life on earth, living things have been depending on the suns energy. Today we still depend on the suns energy, but also on fossil fuels, nuclear power, energy which comes at a cost. It has left us with a huge challenge: global warming. We are starting to realize that something must be done. But the question is: do we solve this problem in time?

    The Solution

The ZUN solar cooker is not trying to save the world, but to inspire people to a healthier and more environmentally friendly life style. One step at a time and by seeing that the Zun cooker can cook food by using nothing but the suns energy it might make people rethink. Solar cooking is a fairly new phenomenon. It is not until most recently, the last twenty years in fact, that we have seen greater strides and developments occur in this field. How it works: A black rock gets hotter lying in the sun than a white rock that is because the black color allows the rock to absorb more of the suns energy, in the form of heat. Put this black rock in a transparent plastic bag and the heat cannot escape and you have made yourself a small solar oven. Add a reflective screen around the rock and bag to capture more sunlight makes the temperature skyrocket. The functionality of the Zun cooker is based on solar cooking theory and on a homemade prototype which was able to: bake 1 kg of potatoes in 1 hour, hard boil 12 eggs in 30 minutes, and cook approximately 500 g broccoli in about 30 minutes as well and all 3 things without the use of water, the water inside the vegetables is simply enough. The cooking found place at 10 am – 2 pm a cold sunny spring day in Denmark. I was surprised how well the prototype worked. It convinced me to take the Design to the next level. My Design Criteria for the product: portable, light weight, easy to use, fun, for both adults and children. The Zun cooker consists of 2 things, a pot and a sun screen: • The pot is made of anodized aluminum; the black color is for maximum absorption of the sun’s rays. Around it, a plastic shell to contain the heat inside the system, just like the plastic bag. The plastic shell is made of a PSU (polysulfone) which allows temperatures of 185 degrees Celsius, which is more than enough for food, to be cooked in the pot. The shell is made from injection molding. And the aluminum pot pressed out from a plate of aluminum. • The sun screen is made in the same materials as the silvery reflector screens you can place inside the windshield of your car. Flexible, durable and good at reflecting. The 2 circle shaped buttons on the pots side acts as a locking mechanism, press it and the lid can come off and be used as a plate. The locking mechanism helps you avoid spilling your prepared food while transporting it from A to B. The locking mechanism does not make the pot a ticking time bomb, pressure is able to ventilate out through the crack between the lid and the pot. When you want to start cooking your food, you place the sun screen on the ground (with the cooker inside, full of food ready to start cooking, yum yum) and unsnap the strap holding the sun screen together (just like the locking mechanism on an umbrella) and voila the screen unfolds itself and your food starts cooking. The ZUN cooker is a fun way to cook together with your family and friends and there is many different ways of using the Zun cooker: You can prepare your food at home, put it in the pot and bring it to the festival, picnic, camping trip, at the beach and so on. You can also mix your ingredients on the spot or collect edible things around you to cook. You can for instance collect mushrooms and make a nice soup. Berries or fruit can also be collected and dried. It is really up to ones imagination. ShelleyS Suggests- There needs to be a thermometer/ temperature gauge, to be certain when temperatures are at food safe level.

    The Problem

There are number of brewing kits out-there with only a few being decent enough to have good ratings. Problem though with even the best home brewing kits is that they require the beer enthusiast to make a substantial amount of (5-6 gal) single batch of the brew that may or may not turn out as expected. What adds to the frustration is that the brewer won't find out the results until-after a few months - when the beer is finally ready to drink. I have recently considered brewing myself and my first reaction was - so I need to make 6 gallons of brew that I can only taste after a few weeks only to discover that all 6 gallons are undrinkable or that I did not like that particular recipe? Would I want to repeat the process if that happens, or would I be discouraged to invest more time and effort? And what happens if I cannot monitor the temps? What if I over-carbonate and the mixture explodes on the floor?

    The Device

Lets create the first ever multi-brew modular micro-brew kit that will allow users to brew multiple batches of different beers or recipes. The users can experiment with multiple batches and he or she can make red ale, lager, and stout all at once. No more waiting for your first batch to complete to start another one. The kit can be outfit with wireless temperature and pressure gauges that will enable the user to actively monitor the ideal brewing temps (another important factor in successful brewing). If undesirable conditions arise the app will alert the user. The kit can be made as 6x 6 gal cylinders with funnel shape so that they can be stacked for easy storage, optimum air expansion, cleaning and storage. Suggestion by Roger Saint Vincent: Keep at it David. Do your research and you'll stumble on the light bulb moment. I have enjoyed our conversation, hope I havent pissed you off. My suggestion is try and make all your containers universal to what is out there for accessories.

    The Problem

The watering canister design has changed little over the past three centuries. Because of this, some gardeners often struggle with distributing proper water amounts to large plants and flowers in hard to reach places.

    The Solution

The versatile design of this canister allows users to carry more water than rigid models, easily distribute water to hanging plants, and allows for smarter storage. The expandable tube makes watering in and around large plants easier and reaches awkward places.

    The Problem

This idea is a new design. My design is simply that, a new take on how the power cord functions and works. The power strip is flexible, it allows users to plug in their devices anywhere on the power strip. Most of the time power strips only allow consumes to plug in their device in the designated spot on the power cord, with this design consumers can plug in their device anywhere.

    The Solution

with this technology and the idea of a power strip it allows the users to plug in their device anywhere. it can be app enabled can be cordless.there is no cordless power strip on the market. the power strip can charge up and become cordless it flex and pivots Suggestion. Make it with regular three prong receptacles that can slide side to side. This will allowed for plugs to make room for chargers etc.  Thank you.

    The Problem

I would like to solve the problem of cooking larger amounts of corn in a microwave at the same time...and have them come out cooked evenly. An easy slide in pull out,put on the table ready to go idea.Simple and convenient.

    The Solution

A round Microwave safe pan..has six plus holes, grips to hold any size corn around the holes(pic).Handles to carry the pan to the Micro and then the table. The pan holds the corn in a stand up position allowing an even cook.Or the holes in the pan could be sloped inwards to point the tops towards the center allowing inches more headroom....(smaller Micros) or smaller micros you could just cut the corn in half. If this gets any further, anyone feel free to use the name Corn Carousel..if you like it.I just like the name as a working title, and think it says what it is.
