Social Sales Fixes

The outstanding issue with social sales is now fixed. The issue stemmed from an error associating a commitment to a referral when a new user was created at the same time as the commitment.
Additionally, we have upgraded social sales referrals to reward orders that are placed by non-members.
The next step in this process will be looking back at the period where the system was having the issue, and rewarding referrers who were affected.

Right now, we are working on fixing a couple bugs in the 'Product Earnings' header under account balance. Currently, some users are seeing a discrepancy between the summation of the figures under this tab, and their total product earnings. Early this morning, we rolled out a fix that partially addressed this issue. We created a workaround for a Rails bug that was incorrectly adding the numbers displayed under the Social Sales section of Product Earnings. -Nathan

We have now deployed a fix for the remaining issues on the 'Product Earnings' section. There were two final bugs that contributed the the discrepancies, which I will attempt to outline here. The first bug related to the social sales column of the breakdown. Social Sales rewards are given on an order level; if you refer someone, and they make an order, the reward is given on the entire order price, not just the price of one product. Unfortunately, this means it is tough to break down the total rewards to specific products. Before the fix deployed today, if there was a social sales reward given for an order with multiple products, that reward would show up in full under the social sales field of each product contained in the order. What this means is that if there was a $6 reward given for an order with 3 items, that $6 would show up three times in the breakdown, which would cause a $12 discrepancy with the total at the top, which was accurate. To fix this, we have broken out the reward proportionally in the display based on the related product's contribution to the total order price. The second bug was caused by fractions of pennies. We keep track of reward amounts in pennies, down to the 6th decimal place. What this means is that when we total up these pennies to place them into a user's account, which is real money, and therefore can't have fractions of pennies in it, there is sometimes a partial cent left over. Instead of just dropping this penny (or placing it into a secret offshore account like Superman 3 or Office Space), we put it back into your rewards pool as a new reward to be added up with the rest on the next payout cycle. The problem is that these rewards were not being caught by the query that was being used for calculating payout amount, and so were just sort of sitting in the rewards table in limbo. That has now been solved. Last night, we distributed all the leftover rewards that have accrued up to this point, and going forward, they will be payed out daily like everything else. The total amount of leftovers paid last night was around 2k across all users. -Nathan
