iPod Nano Stand Case
With the announcement of a 5th Gen iPod Nano only hours ago, sporting features including an FM radio, Pedometer, new model size of 16GB, screen size increased from 2.0 inches to 2.2 inches. The biggest new feature however is the new camera on the back of the device. The camera is able to record footage in VGA quality (resolution of 640 x 480) with up to 30fps and AAC audio. This new hardware upgrade is set to sell well. My product idea is to create a new protective case for this iPod. It will need to have a suitable hole cut out of it to allow the camera and microphone to function without any interference from the case. Also the main feature would be a stand to keep it steady. To do this I would also like to integrate a fold out stand on the back of the case. The camera looks like it is intended to be used when holding the ipod at a 90 degree angle. The stand can be used when the device is horizontal as shown in the pictures below.

And Now The Real Work Begins
Just one hour after our product(s) got selected, the wheels are definitely in motion.
quick & quirky got a little…well, quirky.
We had an amazing amount of community participation for our 1st quick & quirky event. Over 80 ideas were submitted for the ultimate apple accessory. The winning idea was the Matthew Toghill’s stand case for the new ipod nano. Thing is, there was a kick-ass runner up product that the entire quirky in house industrial [...]
Post Apple Event Notes
Software doesn’t do much to excite me– I’m a hands on tangible product type guy, as is most of the rest of the team here at quirky. So.. We thing the new nano + video is really cool, and has some great opportunity to build accessories around. That said, it’s important to note that today’s [...]

this is not new design to me but this is very useful cause i got a ipod nano 5th generation from my sis and i don't like to use it because it's way too thin. i worry about dropping it off all the time. i think this can help. and i especially like the side handle cause whoever owns the newest ipod nano would notice that the lense is so easy to be covered by hands.

Depressed Screen Protection: your screen will never touch a surface and never get a scratch.
Never eh?
That's QUITE a claim.

Would like to see an iPhone version to use on the train - lots of competition out there though.

The longer we wait to make these, the less chance you get to move them. Other manufacturers are already selling a similar less useful item.

You know what would be cool? Cramming a USB stick in the "video grip".

How is yet another case making any 'case' for making the world a better place? Come on gang, let's create stuff that really really makes a difference in the world!
Vic Desotelle, DiscoveryFuel.com, Sustainable Innovations
--------------------
Grappler description below
Innovation is moving from isolated IP (intellectual property) based processes to collaborative OS (open source) based processes. That means that using technology to connect ourselves will become more and more important. Thus, key to the next generation of innovation (known as 'sustainable innovation' or SI) will be the ability to link ourselves into the next level of collective consciousness or group awareness. Our ability to 'Grapple' with each other's perceptions, ideas, insights, values, and aha's will be the way into a global society, where the individual is valued as much as the collective whole.
The Grappler product attaches to your keychain or fits easily in a backpack or pocket. It detects other 'Grapplers' within a person's immediate vicinity and pops up a shared view of these folks on your laptop and/or iPhone. It also stores people that you Grapple with whereever you go; thereby you can follow up with them later on based on matching tags between each other. Conversations can be had syncronously on the fly with people right there or asynchronously later on. Each individual has complete control of the level of connection (known as 'Grappling') that they want others to see including blocking, etc.
Now we can Grapple with personal and world issues and find others right in our own lives that are also Grappling with similar issues, subjects, needs, and requests.

I hope that the people who submitted the more complicated and cool projects in this round will resubmit for the next project development. There were several ideas I thought were much better than these, but I understand that this quicky quirky had to offer easy, fast implementation. Not the best ideas, just the most feasible. Overall a great job and I hope to see more of this of type of from-the-hip project development. We kicked ass!
