My idea is a broom designed to sweep large and small areas. It can be used as a push broom and conventional sweep broom.

Show AllVery useful idea. I could see this as a exterior house cleaning aid to sweep out cracks and clean off spider webs, walls, and siding with a telescoping handle. The mop would clean glass or windows. The folding action is awesome for storage purposes. Keep it going!

sounds like a great idea
It seems like a good idea :)
Whatever the result, it must be named "The Broomop".
As well, I feel like one of the decisions that must be made is whether the device opens "up" (starts out a mop, folds at the the middle and lifts up to the sides) or if it opens "down" (the broom being created by the meeting of the edges of the mop with the middle/fold being pulled upwards/inside the device).
*I hope this is clear (difficult to explain)
I would choose the latter and have the device start as a flat/horizontal surface and pull inwards towards the user and have the edges of the mop meet and create the broom.
The way in which the user should do this could/should be a sliding handle on the shaft (attached to the middle of the folding mop) of the broom that clicks into place with a simple lock with a release button. This way, the "thing" that pulls the broom upwards could be hidden inside the device itself.
At the other end (part that is attached to the pad/bristles) of the "thing", it would have to attach to the middle of the pad/bristles and be pulled inside the bottom of the shaft (which must be slightly larger with some kind of containing device to engulf the inward drawn part of the pad/bristle).
I hope that you can understand/visualize what i am trying to say. Just some ideas as to how it should work (in my opinion).
Wolf Garten (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wolf+garten&x=0&y=0) already has this product and they go many many steps further and include:
Six length handles (14", 55", 59", 67", 86.5", 118")
Several types of handle (flat, long, D Grip, straight)
And a huge variety of heads with more on the way - and these are very high quality products, lifetime products:
