As a daily cyclist, I would love a really good design point on this idea. I've always loved these: http://museumvictoria.com.au/collections/items/269409/helmet-bicycle-navy-and-green-leather-circa-1930-1939

A helmet that would absorb/deflect 1000's of ftlbs of energy from any direction and still disassemble easily is hard to visual. Why not make the chin straps on the helmet adjustable into a shoulder harness to be worn like a backpack. Add a snap in fanny pack that carries other items, pills, phone, etc. and is unsnapped and worn around the waist when riding.

    How bike helmets work:

bike helmets and motorbike helmets are designed to have one core piece of foam that cracks and shatters on impact. The shattering process acts like a buffer and absorbs the pressure which protects you. If you separate this core piece into smaller parts it wont work.

This is a great idea. It would be an excellent product.

real simple D3O. you have the basics there. there are gloves and ski caps but nothing that protects the face extend the front add a plastic skid surface to protect the material from tearing on concrete and you have a good concept. see the video.

I'm sorry but does anyone really think that a collapsible helmet is going to pass SNELL safety standards?

Since there is already a good discussion going on, I just want to add that I personally would think that a great product, too! Good luck!
