The Light Lets Them Know

View This Product's Development History

Are your kids afraid of the dark? Glow 'n Go is a portable night light for children with a built-in alarm clock. The Glow 'n Go is the perfect tool to help your children navigate dark hallways when they wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The rest of the time, its soft beam serves as an unobtrusive night light. Just press the large button on the front of the unit for 20 minutes of glow, and go!

Glow 'n Go also has an alarm function, which can be used as a standard morning wake-up call for your kids, or as a "go signal" -- green means it’s okay to wake Mommy or Daddy, red’s a sign that it's too early and your child should go back to bed. Set times for the product to sound and illuminate using the rubber-coated buttons in the back of the unit.

Product specs:

- Made of hard, durable plastic with large, colored rubber buttons.

- Interior handle is made of soft plastic, ensuring a comfortable grip for your kids.

- Non-slip base for stability and protection.

- Built-in rechargeable battery with an attached AC adaptor cord that can be plugged into a wall socket during the day when not in use.

I think this is a good functional product, despite what it could have been, and just needs a little good marketng.

Can the community vote for a redo? Maybe let people who have or have had kids be most influential in voting. The price is also an issue. The more expensive one currently on the market with all the "bells and whistles" is only slightly more... and it does what the original idea was. It is not a lamp that kids can walk around the house with. It is a light that lets them know it is ok to get up. This needs a design redo.

I rest my case on this one. 26 sold in over a month of pre-sales. At this rate they'll sell out in 2012. Great idea ruined.

I think if I still had kids, I would buy this.

It should be more neutrally colored, too. (or have two versions) This looks much like a little girl's toy that I am sure no boy would be excited to use or own. I think the price point is too high as well.

@Chris... I completely agree. I think this needs to be redesigned. The final product is far from the original idea. This was a great idea that got killed. It may have been the design with the widest reach of support, but I think this one should have been determined mostly by people with children.

I love this idea. As a mother, I would absolutely buy this for my small children. Question, though: I think you should make sure the battery case is not easily opened....Toddlers playing with batteries isn't a good image.

I don't follow what this product does. Is it a night light/flashlight? What happened to the color changing alarm clock?? This bears little resemblance to the products as conceived by Blaine and designed by the community.

To anyone at Quirky: Does the light change color when it is OK to get up or just go off? Can you have the light effect without the alarm?

This is a quote from the Slingback product page from Ben: "Unlike namethis we have developed an awesome dashboard at quirky that lets us look at all the ideas, as well as the demographic information of their supporters. Slingback had the most diverse community participation, we therefore chose it... manually. There are no algorithms here, there is an expert consumer product team and data that gets analyzed by them. As you mentioned, all we can do now is push forward and make sure the rest of the product suits you by giving your opinion on the rest of the projects." So it really only makes sense to vote for what you think Quirky management will choose, if you want to make any money...

@Ezra, it's my understanding that votes don't actually count (or not for much) and Quirky management decides what they think is best. (They say as much in some earlier product pages.) Not sure why Quirky is billed as something the "crowd" decides, because, really, it isn't. It's just that, in theory at least the crowd "influences" (though from what I've seen, that influence is minimal at best).

i think this is pointless!! all they need to do is learn who to read time if they come to your bed in the morning lock your door!! and buy them an alarm clock. this is never going to make money or become a major competitor in the market.

                                      Blue Physiological Effect:

Like yellow, blue inspires mental control, clarity and creativity. Yellow Physiological Effect:
Yellow has proven to stimulate the brain. This stimulation can make you more alert and decisive. This color makes muscles more energetic and activates the lymph system. Psychological Effect:

A simple search will yield these basic tenets of color psychology. The Color Psychology of Blue: Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly.
Blue can also lower the pulse rate and body temperature.
Blue is one of the most popular colors The Color Psychology of Red: Red has been shown to increase blood pressure and stimulate the adrenal glands.
While red has proven to be a color of vitality and ambition it has been shown to be associated with anger.
Sometimes red can make one irritable. Blue is a more appropriate color or overnight use in a nightlight, and much better than red.
