The Space Bar is a simple, elegantly-designed desk accessory that functions to minimize clutter while providing additional USB ports for your computer. After a long day of work, simply slide your keyboard into the designated space below the shelf and store your office miscellany -- keys, digital camera, Split Stick, etc. -- up top. Coming back to work the next morning will be easier if you know you're returning to a clean desk!
Features:
- Constructed of aluminum with durable plastic accents.
- Can stow a keyboard up to 18" long by 1.5" high.
- Six USB ports conveniently located in the front of the shelf. No need to conserve your ports anymore -- now you can have your camera, iPod, Split Stick, and other gadgets hooked in all at once!
This product is powered using an external power source. We will initially release a 120V (American) version and later we'll add a 240V version. The 120V version can be used abroad by utilizing a simple adapter/converter.
THIS ITEM IS CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION. WE WILL POST UPDATES TO THIS PAGE AS WE RECEIVE THEM.

I ordered one; but on second thoughts it really need some USB ports on the back side.Don't want my desk cluttered by long cables (camera cradle, Iphone cradle etc..). But glad it made it trough production !

The Space Bar are look good, but personaly I like the glass version UBoard that come from http://www.pyramidistribution.com/category/30384830401/1/UBoard.htm. Just wonder why they design a cup holder for it?

I have a 27" iMac, I don't need front ports, I do not want all my wires sticking in my face, I need side ports so when I am Parralelling Windoes and need to switch my printer back and forth I don't have to reach in behind and pull the USB out. Decent idea, but now I just have another power cord to contend with.

Need to know if I can sit my iMac 27 on it, else it will stick out in front where my keyboard is. Also I agree with the black cable - big mistake. Otherwise I would love to buy it. Spec should be more detailed.

Haha, I saw that it is 6 USB ports and thought to ask if it was ac powered as well, Lol. Too bad I forgot to mention firewire during the design process.

Just spoke to Jessica at Quirky and she spoke to the Design Team and it's confirmed! This thing is powered by a wall plug as well! Eureka! Now I feel confident purchasing this product! Hope this helps other people who were wondering the same thing

I'm excited this is in production; hopefully this will hold up my 30" monitor or the life of this will be quite short.

What's about 4 USB Ports and two Firewire Ports? Do not know if it is possible.

Think about licensing this to a Japanese manufacturer and having some options (like rear-facing ports). Here in Japan, space is an absolute premium and anything that creates more of it is a definite winner. Do we have any load-bearing estimates yet? If it could safely support a large monitor, that would be a big advantage.

What about 4 USB ports in front, and 2 in back? There are things (like my camera dock) that can plug into the back of the SPACEBAR and sit on top. This would keep the USB cods/plugs hidden and tidy. Also, any chance that these could be powered so we don't get that pesky "low power" notice with some devices?

Let's go, Quirkers and get Mike's product on the market. I have contacted over 100 people via e-mail in the past few days extolling the virtues of quirky.com and Mike's Space Bar. I've embarassed myself publicly by submitting a photo of my messy desk at home to the blog, and I believe it actually helped improve the presales for this item. Do you have a photo you could submit to the blog of how The Space Bar will improve your working conditions? I plan to send in an "after" photo when I finally get mine. Twenty-three (23) more and it's on to production. Not only does Mike have a pretty dang good product here, but he's a great guy, also.

This looks really good! A white cord was definately the thing to do, and I'm sure this will sell like hot cakes once it's out of presale!

All, We are definitely going with white cords here.

@Justin ...21 inches...I guess it will fit on the top. Is it one of those ergonomic curved keyboards? Can I interest you in coming over to the dark side? Macs do run Windows 7 so you could have the best of both worlds. I've helped 6 people make this switch in the last two months! They're all happy they did! @Quirky...Jess? can you answer the questions about the wire being black/ white or left/right. This itself could add sales to the people below that are holding back until they find out the answers to these questions.

How wide is this going to be? I don't use a Mac (gasp) but I do like the idea. My current keyboard is about 21 inches wide, so if it's able to fit under this it would be swell.
