The Travel Buddy Eye Mask project is nearing completion! The Quirky Design Staff is finishing up the details and gearing up for the launch. Now, we need the Quirky Community to help name this product.
Please refer to the CMF for a general idea of how this product will look.
Don’t forget to do a search for potential trademark infringement before submitting your name idea. This can be as simple as running a google search on your name submission. While we won’t disqualify a name that belongs to another product, store, etc., it might have an effect on our decision.
In this phase, we are asking you to come up with the product tagline for the packaging. This is a SUPER important aspect of our brand image, and is very visible at retail.
It needs to embody everything that Quirky stands for as a brand, be eye-catching and 'sticky'. It has to draw people in while also describing the product solution.
Please refer back to the CMF Phase to get a strong idea for this product look.
Some of our tag lines directly describe the product's functionality in an irreverent way that is borderline snarky, such as Mugstir's 'Spoon That Hangs On Your Mug' or Cordies' 'Keep Your Cables On The Table'.
Some of our tag lines are super short and punchy: Space Bar's 'More Space. More Ports'.
Some are somewhat abstract but employ literary devices such as rhythm and alliteration: Broom Groomer's 'Bye Bye Bunnies'.
Some play on/rip off somewhat famous lines, sayings, phrases etc, like Mantis' 'Let There Be Light'.
One last thing: we reserve the right to NOT pick a tagline if it does not make the cut.
Anyway, you get the idea... go to it!

Show AllCan we have a design with unblinking eyes painted on the outside - just to spook fellow passengers and the cabin crew.
We could also sell it as an office rest aid...
Since I am the inventor of the travel buddy eye mask. I think it should be a very simple design. I travel at least once a week and use this device on all my flights except international ones. I think there should be a clip on to the seat design for easibility and to prevent hitting the tv on back of seat which the strap method would cover the screen. This eye mask does not trap your head to the seat but use as a light connection to balance the head and if you wanted to disconnect just pull away.
needs to have some sort of flexible material to it so if the brakes are hit hard or the plane is caught by disturbance, the last thing you want is an injured neck.
Anything that restrains a person to a seat needs to be approved by that country's regulating authority (The FAA in the US) before it can be used in an aircraft. If you were to market this for use on an aircraft and sell it in the US, you would need to accquire such approval from the FAA. As a Flight attendant, I would ask you to remove it if it did not have such approval.
GOOD IDEA DON you got my vote. I have a few design comments for you and Quirky to consider:
1. You might be better off replacing all the long anchoring straps from the back for the seat, saving in velcro material, metal adjustment rings, and the risk of a funny kid in the back playing with the adjustment so he/she can see your head falling as you sleep. A simple device that addresses this risk and keeps your original needs is a foldable but sturdy leather panels with velcro on one side that when opens fully, it unfolds to a "U" shape. Slide this "inverted U frame" on the top on the seat with the velcro side facing your head so you can use your current device. This inverted U FRAME can be made collapsible so it is flat when you are done, kind of like this "=" get it? let me know if there is an area here inQuirky where I can send a drawing of my thought so you can make your product better to fit ANY SEAT on an air plane, and maybe cheaper??
2. Use strong Velcro, HEADS ARE HEAVY!!! and the last thing you want is waking up because your head just fell off from the weak velcro attachment. LOL!! while everyone is watching and laughing at you.
3. Have you thought about making it FUN!!! Example: instead of Leopard design paint some OPEN EYES (crazy look) or (SLEEPY EYES) closed, or paint that whole part of the face exactly like someone famous and good looking, lets see...besides me..nobody,,,,, ahhh yes,,,maybe Brad Pit for Men and Angelina Jolie for women? or you get the idea? Licensing business.....
4. Do you want to ADD VALUE TO THE IDEA TOO? well, let women know that during airplane flight this works like this but after the flight is over it becomes A BRAW (YES LOL!) You were using an inverted Braw to sleep during the play and no one knew, then you got the bathroom and out it back and women are good to go,, oohhh just had another idea for number 3 above.
5. OK seriously again: Finally and most important, COVER THE EARS!!. could we block the ears too? The hardest part is not to keep the head from falling or an airplane, is being forceful to listen AT FULL VOLUME!!! an annoying flight attendant repeating in 3 languages what the captain just said "turbulance is coming fasten your seat belt." while you are SUPERSTRAPPED all the way up to your head, LOL!!, So you are basically woken up many times during flight to feel the plane moving, to be scared, to get dizzy and to throw up in a bag, instead of letting you sleep at peace and be happy.
6. Make the part that goes around your head washable A MUST!
Ok enough feedback and "sweet fun for one day" Good luck and send me one when your product is made so i can give a new braw to my wife for me to use during family trips. LOL
ASLEIORDU.
So I used one of those half circle around the neck pillows the other day on a plane and it worked amazing!! can u incorporate the eye mask into one of those so I don't have to strap my head to anything. Thanks!
It's very nice design but it's quite dangerous - even when you are sleeping on the air plane, some part of your body still need to be flexible to react to sudden turbulence.
I think this would be good if the attachment between the head and seat was made of velcro. That way it would keep your head there while sleeping but if there was an accident you would still be free.
Please check out this product. It's for anyone with neck and arm injuries... http://www.quirky.com/ideations/212086
Thank you and good luck!
Breaks your neck in record time!
You know there will be that one idiot who puts this on without a seatbelt.
Rule of thumb: never anchor the head to a moving vehicle.
Very nice to be used in Brazil
