I think the price point is set way too high at $26. I imagine this will be manufactured in China (not Germany), so it's probably a safe bet to cut the price in half, bump up the pre-sales, and start selling them before 2011 roll around.

Love it!

Hey how many pens can this easily hold? it looks like about 5 since when you pull one out it would move some of the flaps so ones too close together would fall.

Hey... these things would be great in the lab for holding tubes...

The bigger white surface actually makes it usable as a promotional product as well.

It does have a nice sculptural look, I really loved the original concept, but I think my students will get a kick out of using this version of a pen organizer.

Cant we use a magnetic steel surface ? Paperclips, keys, all sort of things we could stick to it...

Pricey, but I am still tempted because of the design...very sharp looking, almost sculptural. I could see it being sold in museum stores and on the desks of hipsters and graphic designers. I only hope it is on the heavier side. I like the way it looks, and how it will accommodate all pen sizes. Yes, a mug will do the trick, but no way nearly as coolly.

Lots of discourse here over the Pen-in-a-poke idea. My 2 cents is that "design by committee" will always be wrought with issues like this. It does concern me that the original intent and spirit of the idea was changed. I think the final design is great and does have appeal, but there should be a way to set guidelines in the ideation stage where people can vote and lock-in the "reasons or functional specs" for the idea.

Wait, I thought the idea was to reduce clutter, not make more. I think the original idea was WAY better than this. Hope it works out for everyone though.

Hate to add to the negativity here - but $26 for this? I think that's way overpriced for what it is. And while it might look neat and clean with 1-3 items in it - if you wanted to really remove the clutter of pens one has, it would look just as clunky as not having anything. As designed it's a decent product - but the price is way too high. Even this http://www.furniturestoreblog.com/2008/07/16/grassy_toothbrush_or_pencil_organizer.html is less than $10

I am not happy with the final design. I would have wanted something that unclutters the space and get's the pens out of sight. this is just more clutter and you can't even place it up against the back of the counter since the pens stick out the back. I will continue using the free soup can my daughter drew pictures on until something better and less expensive comes along. Sorry guys but I think this one is a dud.

This did turn out way different than the original idea, but this seems to be able to use for more than just pens. It looks a bit Apple-designed in a way, so we might add a picture with it sitting horizontal, holding my iphone, ipod and the Beamer :-)

Love how to final design turned out! Doesn't seem like many people would buy the original. This product actually makes me want to take my art pens out of the drawer and put them on display!

Andy - I don't disagree with you. However, I want to point out that the community voted for this design and not the quirky staff. Let's just see how this does in presale. There are a number of folks into design and they might bite on this particular product. (I'm an optimist!) For me, I like the design because I have a ton of cool pens I've collected over the years that I can display in a very unique way (vs. a McDonalds cup). I personally, was not fond of the original design because I don't want to put yet another storage item in my desk that I may or may not use regularly. As for the comment on price -- I agree, this is a bit pricey and that concerns me with respect to sales. If the item were a a platinum/metal material, it would look more elegant. Even a dark wood would make this item pop ---- for me. I did order one.

Oh, what? I've been away for a while so I haven't been able to track this product's progress like the others - but why did the original design change? I absolutely LOVED the original one! I was so looking forward to buying it :( But I don't want to be the Miss Priss that constantly drags everything down, so I will say that this product's kinda cute, anyway. :) Well done to the guy who created it, and good luck to everyone else involved~

Not to be negative but - How is this product different than the McDonald's cup that I use to hold my pens in now? That cup only cost me 1.89 and I got a drink with it. I hope someone submits the original design for this again - it was a much better idea and unlike this design and especially this price point, won't be sitting in pre-sales until 2063...

It's a bit of a shock that three of these cost more then one Snow Shredder.

I don't understand how the chosen logo design fits the product or the name...
