Pressto!

Less Water, More Flavor.

View This Product's Development History

The Pressto! is a compact kitchen device that squeezes the water out of a block of tofu and lets you quickly dice the tofu into small, easy-to-cook cubes in just seconds. Out with the watery stir-fry, the wasted paper towels, and the messy kitchen counters… in with the Pressto! We’re talking less water, more flavor.

Not only have we created the world’s first-ever tofu press, but we’ve made this thing totally quirky, cool, and compact. Check out the specs:

- Glossy white and bamboo finish.

- Removable, dishwasher-safe dicer, strainer, and clear drip pan, all made out of BPA-free plastic.

- Cutting mechanism made of wires rather than blades to prevent injury.

- Sturdy, durable base with non-slip grip feet.

- Locks close for storage.

- Squeezes out water in one push and lock of the handle.

- All interior parts are dishwasher safe.

This thing will dice a whole block of tofu in one second with a single press of the handle. If that’s not enough for you, we’ve added non-slip feet to keep the press from sliding on wet kitchen counters and a non-slip grip on the handle. Locking mechanisms can be set to your desired pressure and easily released. Plus, Pressto! can be used for virtually any size and thickness of tofu, or to squeeze water out of anything -- frozen vegetables, fresh mozzarella… the possibilities are endless!

So let your inner hippie out -- the Pressto! is great for vegetarians, vegans, flexetarians, and tofu-eating meat-lovers too.

Oddly enough the first thing that struck me when I heard about this product was its potential for things other than tofu. I work as a teaching assistant for a Dairy Processing course and we make cheese; you may or may not know that this process often requires a pressing stage. Your product would have excellent applicability here if it was able to have variable pressure. What's more is that the mesh feature would be great for the curd milling stage of cheddar cheese making (where the curds from curds and whey come from). Your tofu press could actually be intensely useful for cheesemakers!

I've a better idea. Stop eating Tofu, it's Naaaaasty. If we kill the industry there will be no need for devices such as these.

This is a great idea, but the price point is too high for a gadget that has a single use every week or less.

It is about time we started hustling this to WholeFoods. Talk to your local manager about carrying it.

I wonder if, by eliminating the drip pan (use a plate) and dicer (use a knife; tofu is nothing if not easy to dice) you could bring the price down some...I'd really love to get my Pressto!

How long does it take to get the water out? It is a bit awkward, but not too difficult to put something heavy (but not too heavy) on your block of tofu. In my experience, this process cannot be rushed. Several hours (rather than more pressure) is the ticket. Does Pressto eliminate the planning ahead necessary for dry tofu?

Some thoughts and impressions on the Pressto: it is sleek and beautiful, and its design alone would surely appeal to many a tofu user. But the price.... ouch! In this "reduce, recycle, reuse" era, my overall impression is that this product is over-designed, and thus overpriced.

This product does not make sense to me. I've been using the TofuXpress and it is without a doubt the most effective kitchen tool for getting all of the water out of Tofu. My tofu retains flavors fabulously. I also like cutting my tofu into different sizes for different dishes. Also I can use the TofuXpress to marinade after pressing! TofuXpress.com Joi Caplen

re: pre-sales... can a "flyer" be developed for download that explains the presales process, that each of us can download and forward to our email list of a bazillion friends? Surely we can drum up some sales with some appropriate marketing support...

Seconding Edward---it's incredibly depressing to watch these amazing products get pushed through development so wonderfully quickly... just to languish in pre-sales forever. Come on... there has to be a better way.

I can't wait for this to be available. It looks better than the TofoXpress. No metal and it slices and dices.

It seems that Quriky can develop some really unique products. But to get the product to market and reach critical mass Quirky needs a 'marketing' department. The products specs / marketing brochures can be sent to potential buyers. In this case, various kitchen / cooking equipment distributers. Or, alternatively implement some kind of incentive for Quirky users to market / sell the products. For example, users can get a sales commission for the total sales orders the sign. This should be regardless of whether the user has won any points during development.

FYI, I just tried to pre-order 3 of these (woo!), and since there's no "quantity" field, I had to place 3 consecutive orders... and I think the third one was rejected as fraud by my card (I'm assuming, since the other two went through fine).
