going into full production after only 10 days of quality assurance (qa) testing????!? uh why does this NOT surprise me. i refer you to the comments of one of this "company's" other products, the space bar, product # 0022. according to that product's comment string/blog, the product was to have been launched on 14 august...but now they claim that the launch date is "open" due to poor quality on the "final" product. so how can any company assure the quality of any product with only 10 days of qa testing. as i said in my comment concerning the space bar, does the word/term VAPORWARE mean anything to anyone?

You know what, I've reconsidered. I ride off road and if this thing had wrench attachments as well I would probably buy it even in it's clumsy present state just for the simple fact that I could wrench my bike out in the bush if necessary without having to have a bunch of different tools. But to make this truly useful quirky will have to produce a huge assortment of add on tools to make it truly the most useful tool on the market. If they just sell it as a box set as shown then it becomes just another gimmick item.

I've supported this idea from the beginning. My only concern is it doesn't look very ergonomic. Seems like it would be rather clumsy to use. Maybe making the handle a pistol grip would be better than the big bulbous end it has right now. I don't think I will buy it in it's current configuration.

I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the Switch, and I figured I'd make a note about some of my fellow quirkies suggestions... As many have said, key blanks would be a fantastic and welcome upgrade to the Switch. This is supposed to be *our* tool, so shouldn't it be able to be customized our way, completely? Expanding on DCFW's train of thought on the "kit" idea....what about a keyblank kit? Say, 6 to 8 blanks? I don't know many of us that would only use just one blank (and hey, if you do....save the others for later! Bike locks get lost, cars get replaced, etc. You'll always have a spare for when it's time to change your keys!). Another thought was that, since this is supposed to be an all-purpose tool, we need a little more 'all purpose' in here. There's a lot of tools, some vanity items, and even a nice chunk of 'geek' in the Switch. But I think it needs a few more tools that aren't as common to push it over the edge. There are a LOT of great multi-tools on the market right now. From Super-Swiss Army knives to Leatherman's, the Switch needs to have an even bigger competitive edge by offering tools that aren't already offered. Customization is great: It's even better when it brings something new to the table. A few things I thought of were: a whetstone (how many blades are on this thing) seam ripper (I don't know about anybody else, but I have found 100 uses for this thing that have nada to do with sewing) a spork with a snap-on plastic cover (maybe I'm crazy here, but then again I always forget utensils when camping) And honestly, there are a lot more ideas floating around, but this comment is already ridiculously long. Point is, I see a lot more potential, and making themed-specific kits that feature more tools, more customization, and an all around better experience for customers would definitely move the Switch from being "a multi-tool with some customization", to "the essential multi-tool". Check out LifeHacker sometime and their post about their "Go Bags". Those geeks love their multi's more than God loves Jesus, and the only thing they love more than things that are useful, are things that can be customized. (And by "they", I mean "we").

@Noah: Blades will be held securely in place within the exterior body covers.

this totally rocks... but 1 giga usb drive is way too small... need at least 4, or 8.

I'll buy one in a heartbeat once I can get key blanks for this.

Quirky should have a turn in your old Multi tool to get a discount promotion. Drop off your old leatherman get five bucks off or something.

@Adam Mills -- The key blank idea is outstanding. I have several bikes, each takes a unique collection of tools, and none are covered by the standard bike tools. This would make a great bike tool. I could assemble a tool specific for my bike.

IT would be lovely if one could buy blanks for the most common key types that would slot into this - Kwikset, Stanley, etc. That would be a seriously killer app.

Is there a belt attachment? I couldn't see one. Otherwise a great idea and product.

This is pretty slick, and leaves a lot of possibilities open: "Expansion kits" with 6-8 more tool attachments, or just sell specific attachments separately for like $6-8 each (so, buying as a "kit" would be a better deal, but, if you really wanted just one tool , you could get it). Also maybe smaller "starter" kits with only 6-10 of the tools and a smaller box. Seems like it could really grow into a very expansive product line.

Switch is one cool Tool. I love the final design of the product, and it comes in a neat box so that you can keep it organized. :) This is the mother of all multi-purpose tools.
