Love your iPad but hate that you can’t comfortably use it while lounging on your couch or lying in bed? Boom – problem solved. The Quirky Cradle is a portable, lightweight lap desk for your Apple iPad.
Design features include:
- A minimalist bent design constructed from Plyboo (bamboo plywood, a sustainable alternative to wood).
- An integrated circular plate, made from matte, soft-touch plastic, that allows you to rotate your iPad between portrait and landscape views.
- A foam cushion with woven covering built into the underside of the desk, which rests on your lap for added comfort.
- Compact dimensions: 21in wide x 4in tall x 13in deep x 1/4in thick.
With all these features, Cradle truly is a lap desk with a twist.

I would buy this if you could fold it and use it as a carrying case as well. Is it possible to place small hinges on the sides to create this functionality?

I'm new to Quirky and have an idea for an iPad lap desk. So I searched the site and found this one. Quite honestly I liked the original idea better. Definitely needs a redo. It's all about comfort and this does not look comfortable for the end user.

Don't like the color of the white turn table, and everyone is right, the angle needs to be facing towards the person or the neck will be cramped. Needs to go back for a redo!

One of my concerns is if the 2 tangs that look like they secure the iPad to the turn table is if they will accomidate an iPad thats in a case or not ????? I want one of these, but I'll most likely end up modifying it so I'll be able to set my iPad on it still inside its protective case.

Not useful unless you can change the angle of viewing. If only parallel to the ground, that is bad ergonomics - especially for your neck.

i'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but this product will not work unless the plane of the ipad makes at least a 15-30 degree angle with respect to the ground plane. the accelerometer won't be able to distinguish the orientation change--try it with your ipad or iphone.

I loved Hans' inspired and ultimately original design, so I'm a bit disappointed that the turntable seems to be an afterthought. I've committed to the product, but I can't see the Cradle, as it is shown, being an improvement on a breakfast tray with a Lazy Susan.

I was loving this idea in the beginning, when Hans showed us the original prototype, but now? No way. Here's what would make it a no-brainer (and I apologize if these have been mentioned, I glanced at the first 20 or so comments, then was running short on time): 1) adjust the tabs so it could accomodate multiple devices, or the iPad housed in the Cloak...with adjustable sliding tabs, could be used with iPods, etc; 2) elevation - gotta be able to change the angle of the device, preferably adjusting the rotating plate...wouldn't be difficult to put a piece underneath it to snap into place at various elevations; 3) make it smaller or make the Plyboo hinged so the legs fold under so it's portable...way too big and bulky as it is...a pillow or bean bag alone would be a much better idea. That's my 2¢ worth. Thanks for listening.

without the elevation feature, this is not worth the money what so ever, i really loved the original design , and now i see this, and i'm pretty disappointed, i could get the same thing but just with a ledge and turn the device myself at bed bath and beyond for 14.99.

This design was voted for by the majority, seems that most of registered users aren't qualified to select at all. Leave product selection to the experts.

Bad design. Boohoo.

The "in use" picture makes it look very uncomfortable to use unless you are great yoga practitioner. Ergonomics anybody?

Can you make the tabs that hold the iPad fold down? Then it can be used for multiple devices.... just a thought. Love the bent Plyboo!

Hey quirky team! We need a photo that shows off the swivel, PLEASE! :) This is a killer feature and, if you didn't KNOW it already then the feature gets lost. Can we get one, please?

Dear Quirky team, I don't see a way to tilt or elevate the iPad, what happen? I think the original idea had a way to tilt the lap desk and the majority of the folks liked that idea including myself. Is the swivel part going to tilt or elevate?

Being used as a gaming device! The iPad that is. http://www.swaglikeme.com/blog/2010/5/5/playing-super-mario-brothers-on-the-ipad-using-the-wiimote.html

The "bean bag" is a great idea, the platform "writing surface" is not. I want a bean bag with three guides that will hold the iPad in place on the bean bag and that's it. That way I can rest the iPad comfortably while sitting AND when I am in bed. Your configuration won't work comfortable for someone trying to read in bed. And if you want to do all that writing and work, use a desk. Where your idea will catch hold is if it simply keeps the iPad from slipping. Call it a iPad sticky pillow and it will sell.

The good with this product is that it sinks in place and rotates while providing proper support while on the lap. The bad too big, and clunky. The bigger and clunkier it is the less people will be interested despite its benefits. The real appeal is the functionality worker on making this product sleeker will be the difference between a "good idea" and a "successful product."

Why not allow for it to accommodate the iPad while wrapped in the Cloak creating a market for people who already own the Cloak and some synergy for Quirky products. This way people will not have to remove the iPad from their Cloak or any other case for that matter when they want to use the LapPad. I think its an awesome idea just have to think about human behavior you may sell a few but the reviews will be got tired of taking the iPad in and out of its case. The iPad is really meant to be an on the go item so the LapPad should be more of a home docking station that as soon as you walk through the door I drop my iPad into my LapPad for the night.
