Grow fresh herbs by any windowsill with Stem Garden, an elegant indoor/outdoor planting system designed over 24 hours by Quirky’s global community of influencers. This product’s unique design was inspired by the refined simplicity of champagne flutes.
In addition, Stem Garden features:
- Bendable goose-neck “stems” that allow you to position your plants most effectively for direct sunlight, without moving the entire unit.
- Removable terra-cotta cups, for easy planting and maintenance.
- Removable terra-cotta drip pan, which allows for easy disposal of excess water.
- Internal overflow protection system that allows excess water to drip down the removable planter cups through the stem into the included drip pan (subject to further design feasibility review).
This product will also come with an easy-to-use herb starter kit, with a variety of seeds and a set of simple instructions.

It's a shame it looks like this product is stalling out. :( It's a great looking herb planter. I hope it hits it's pre-sale number or a retailer picks it up so it can be out for next spring.

I like it. Well done Quirky and Quirkers.

The picture I see has 6 cups. Every flower designer knows to go with odd numbers. There should only be five.

A few interesting points that may be beneficial: According to the US Census Bureau, over 34 million Americans live in multi family dwellings W. Atlee Burpee is a top seed supplier. Shipping more than 100 million packets a year, the company is the largest supplier of seeds to home gardeners in the US. That's $50 million in seed. I think you have a good idea and I think you have a market.

When I view the development history for the Stem Garden, this is what I get, but there is a serious disconnect between the history and the Stem Garden. Visually, the Stem Garden is very appealing, but I've ditched 2 herb gardens because the containers for each plant were so tiny that I could barely go away for a long weekend and have them survive. I am not certain this will be significantly different.

And by "disposal" of excess water, you mean "reuse," right?

Wild, wacky and quirky! I might find multiple uses for this besides an herb garden.

I would leave a comment but what would be the point? To help out with ideas for product development, and yet gain no influence, this is the most important part of the product, don't you think?

Don't know if it helps, but just added a multiple comments and a simple graphic to Austin's ID entry using a tray with pie shaped pockets that can adjust in size to let light filter down and be sized for the plant size. The pockets could be made of vinyl. I think the idea might be novel to go with Austin's novel shape.

Congrats!!! This is awesome. Maybe include some organic seeds with purchase. Does it have to be made of plastic?

I think the industrial design will make this product better and will stand out against the crowd. Good luck!

Hmm...Sorry to say it's remarkably similar to a product sitting in my kitchen right now. That I originally bought 8 years ago. And more recently bought a new one about a month ago. It's a great idea. But it's already been done. Make sure you come up with something unique to differentiate yours. They solve the last layer problem by having it be a reservoir layer that accumulates runoff so that the layers growing stuff don't get over saturated.

this reminds me of the guggenheim museum. Is the design a spiral or are there levels. I thought that the spirals might work to just pour the water from the top and have it trickle down. Also a way to hang the device so as to place it up off the ground. Really like the idea and I feel this diverts enough from the standard herb gardens.

Congrats! Now make it work for even the non-green thumbed among us and we'll all enjoy fresh herbs in our food!

It's not letting me vote for industrial design!

If the watering cylinder is not in the center of each layer you could unfold and all layers would get light, but I am not sure if that is bad for distributing water.

I didn't see this either! I currently do some herb gardening in containers, and this looks like a GREAT idea!
