Sorry for confusion. I should have explain more clearly. Let me try to use the word Kōsoku in sentences. 1: Police kōsoku-ed a terrorist at the airport. 2: Dr. Hannibal Lecter is kosōku-ed in a straitjacket. Do you get it? The word Kōsoku has almost same meaning as ARREST. I understand if you look up the word Leash in a English-Japanese dictionary, you can find the word Kōsoku. I guess it is called Lost in translation?? The point is Kōsoku is not a happy word, and you don't want to use it for a product related with your loving dog. I guess SAMPO which means "taking for a walk" would be much nicer. Well, this is end of Japanese lecture. Thank you for reading.

This is one of the best designs I have seen here so far. Confused about the name, but the product looks awesome. Logo and tag line are also great. Even though I have little influence on this one, I hope to see it succeed.

It's great idea and looks great, but the name of this product Kōsoku sounds awful. I am new here so I am not sure the name Kōsoku came from a Japanese word or not but unfortunately Kōsoku is a very strong word used for criminals or terrorists in Japan. Nobody wants to kōsoku their loving dogs. Well....basically this product is sold in US so who cares?

I hope someone is marketing this to dog store owners, and online dog stores for presale. I'd really like to see this get produced.

I think this looks great except for the baggie compartment which means you are locked into the rolled bags which are more expensive. Too bad.

@Don Russell: It's 6-feet of awesomeness when fully extended.

Is the leash 6 feet long fully extended or 6 feet when retracted?

I love the way this looks, but at 39 dollars I really want to hold one in my hand to make sure it feels good before I purchase it... Not sure how to fix that. I admit that the pre-sale influence has me wondering, but I still wish I could try one out!

Ok Qirksters, can we think about ways to harness the energy of the dog, using the leash? We could generate power caused by the tension of the commonly less trained K-9! As they pull the leash out, power is generated, to ...... Maybe it has a built in mp3 player + Speaker that is completely dog powered? This brings new meaning to plug -n- play. This is more of TUG -N- PLAY!

As an avid dog walker, this really appeals to me. The design is simple, easy to use and exactly what I'm looking for. No more looping the lead through itself, around my fingers, across my wrists and, on one unfortunate incident, around my ankles.

There are already two ideal products for dogs who chew their leashes. The first is called a British Slip Lead and the second is called a dog trainer. The British Slip gives you excellent control over the dog without hurting her, and is tough enough to take some chewing. I totally sympathize, because my dog used to that too, but it's really important to train her out of it, because you want her focused on you and calm when walking, for the safety of your dog and other people/dogs around. (I spent time walking him in the yard - any safe spot will do - and when he'd bite the leash to get my attention, I'd simply drop the leash and turn away. The leash ceases being fun to bite when it's just lying there, and the attention-getting ploy didn't work. I'm not trying to be negative, and I appreciate your enthusiasm to create a new product, but I think the resulting product would basically cause safety issues for you and your dog. Your dog needs to be calm and focused on you when you walk, for her safety and that of other people and dogs around. PS throw the retractable leash out. They're dangerous.

Not illegal to sell, just to use. There's no enforcement. Retractible leashes are used generally by dog owners who do not know or have not bothered to learn to control their dog on a regular leash. These leashes are easily pulled out of your hand, can trip pedestrians, cause cuts, eye injuries, friction burns, lawsuits and more. Check it out.

Has anyone considered that in some localities, New York for one, these leashes are not legal? According to Section 161.05 of the New York City Health Code, your dog has to be kept on a six-foot long leash when it’s in a public place: "A person who owns, possesses or controls a dog shall not permit it to be in any public place or in any open or unfenced area abutting on a public place unless the dog is effectively restrained by a leash or chain not more than six feet long."

A great material could be the things they use on weight machines at the gym, like cables or flat rubber. Flat rubber would have a little give to it and is easy to wind up neatly!

i like the sound of your product. i agree that a strong material other than chain is good. i would like the idea of not having to use my finger on the retractor constantly to disable the extension. maybe a clicker rather than a whistle would be a good doggie attention grabber. also, consider dogs at all ranges. it is equally hard to find a good product -- mastiff or chihuahua.

Very practical when it comes to walking your dog. I can see it's many variations in colors, thickness of leash and why go with the mundane chain-link; maybe links (like charms), you know person-dog-person and so on. (customized) just to show the bond between the owner and pet. Also, the chain-link can be made to retract ( I am sure quirk can can design for that; if not go with airplane cable). What about 2-3 dogs on the one leash, it can be adaptive like the leashes used for a dog shed. 2-3 shorter leash at different lengths connected to the main leash; this might go well for dog walkers. Lastly how about glow in the dark material, that would be cool.
