The telescoping pole locking mechanism is weak, and broke the first time I used it. Once this point is broken, the device is pretty much useless. I found another one in a retail store (it was red, not blue like pictured) and thought maybe it had been redesigned so I gave it another shot. This one has cracked along the locking plastic as well. It's holding together for now, but winter still isn't over here in Maine. I need the telescoping type of scraper to clean off my SUV. I love the design of Thor, but it's only as good as it's weakest point.
My original review is below, but the short story is that after being ridiculously excited about Thor, it broke after the first time I used it. Quirky got in touch with me after posting this and offered to send me a new one. I just received it today and it looks like, since the original release, it's undergone a structural change to use screws to hold the pieces together. Looks a lot more solid, and even if it doesn't last forever, Quirky went above and beyond in making it right. ----- After a huge storm the other year that hit New York City, I swore to be ready for the next one and I preordered Thor from Quirky as soon as I saw it was about to enter production. Of course, I never got the chance to use it last year since we got little to no snow. Fast forward to last month when I needed to (finally!) use it for the first time. Even my kids were excited about using it. As I went to town on the snow and ice that had accumulated on my car, the two forward pieces (the X) broke apart. They were held together with nothing but glue, and it certainly didn't live up to expectations on the first (and only) chance I had to use it. I got one of the first units that Quirky produced, so maybe they've learned lessons since then. But if I'm giving an honest review, I can't give them the benefit of the doubt. The thing just didn't hold up, useless after half a use.
It is not mentioned in the description - but Thor is great to pull or push snow - even heavy thick snow off of the hood...using the rubber side, due to the extended height. The telescoping handle is a major plus, I am 5'2" and have a truck. It stores under the back seat, no problem. I love it. I have not had a chance to try it on ice yet, but I am confident it will perform well there too.
