Please please make this! Hopefully lightweight and fits lots of chairs.

Please check out this product. It's for anyone with neck and arm injuries... http://www.quirky.com/ideations/212086

Michelle, good thinking but I have some concerns:
1, Attaching the unit to the chair will lift the chair.
    2. How is the unit(s) to be attached to the chair? If by screws, one has to be a handy person.
    3. What is this unit made of, I mean the casing that holds the spring? If metal, now you will have metal scrathing the floor instead of wood from chair.
    4. The unit(s) will have to match the furniture( chair's)color.
5 Consider durable pads (soft pastic(?) that can be recessed screw to the chair legs instead of the unit.
6.keep in mind people move chairs also while sitting.

Not sure where the current version of the product is, but this is crucial. A Solid (mouse like) Sphere inside a rubber spherical chamber, with applied graphite lubricant (WD40) and a rubber ceiling based on human weight. The connect to the chair should not be a surrounding fit, it should be a 6 pin prong that you hammer into the wood of the chair (Think 6 push pins in a hexagonal configuration that you hammer into the wood). Much stronger than a rubber seal and it's how furniture/floor pieces are applied today.

I like this idea very much. Suggestion: (1)design the opening into a v-shape to accept several chair-leg thicknesses (2)use a dark or neutral color, maybe even a clear sleeve may be best. Good luck - Jack Fleming

As long as the locking system on the wheels are easy to lock, I can't see any danger of falling when you try to sit. Would be great if there was a handle under the chair seat, kinda like in your car when you want to push the seat forward or back. You could press the handle to lock , then sit, then unlock to push up to the table then lock again.

Great Idea! The only issue that I see right off hand is that this would not be " One size fits all" type of product which I believe may have some draw backs. Although, most people I see purchasing this would be for dining chairs and bar stools for protecting their wood, linoleum, tile etc.. so by researching most of your Ikea's, Bed Baths and Beyond's etc.. and finding the average weights of their most popular models (chairs) would help in finding the right spring where only a minimal amount of weight could collapse the spring protecting a small child if they were to try and climb on the chair.

This could be avoided in part by using a screw to adjust the stiffness of the spring, like on bike shocks.

One way to make it one size fits all is to have a adjustment screw that would give more or less tension on the spring according to the weight of the chair or stool
