Scratch-n-Scroll

The Noteable Mousepad

View This Product's Development History

Scratch-n-Scroll is a mousepad with a little something extra –- a writing surface, for all those times you're working at your desk and can't find a pen to jot down a phone number or reminder. Simply jot notes on the mousepad using your finger or the built-in plastic stylus. Just like the Magic Slate, that genius childhood toy, you can erase your notes at any time by flipping up the Scratch-n-Scroll's semi-transparent top sheet. Voila! A clear writing surface.

Special features:

- Slim, portable design.

- Smooth scrolling surface, just like standard mouse pads.

- Non-slip back pad so the product stays put while in use.

- Works in conjunction with any optical/ball-based computer mouse.

Right, enough is enough. It has been 5 months since the threshold was hit, 7 months since you have taken my credit card details, and undoubtably hundreds (if not thousands) of others' too. We have all been led to believe we'd actually get this product soon afterwards (i.e. maybe a month or so after the threshold date, like October 2009) but its now MARCH 2010 and the ship date is **still** only an "ESTIMATE". We keep being told the ship date is just around the corner but I've pretty much lost faith after waiting since August 2009. I would like to remove my credit card details but clicking on the "X" next to it takes me to an error page. The website loads slow which is a worrying sign in itself, and what kind of business knows exactly what to charge for a product when it doesn't even know when its coming off the production line (and in what quantity)? Surely you need to have a specific profit margin in mind but everything sounds all too wishy washy to me. You don't have a single item in stock yet, however you're talking all about money/influencers/etc, giving away free $20 credits and taking everybody's credit card details. I'm getting very worried and I for one want out please. So far it looks like this website has gathered a lot of people's nice potential money making ideas, gathered a lot of credit card details, and hasn't really produced anything tangible to show for it. For all we know the owners are taking all these ideas to another company (filing patents etc) and leaving everyone here staring at each other wondering what is going on. "We are so, so sorry" doesn't really cut it for me I'm afraid. You only have a handful of products "on sale" and the lack of frequent updates on their progress has me extremely worried.

Due to production delays, the estimated ship date for the Scratch-n-Scroll is March 25. We are so, so sorry if the wait has been annoying -- we want to make sure the kinks in this product are ironed out before we release it to the public! If it's any consolation, know that you'll be receiving a super high-quality product. -- Community Ambassador Jess

I love the concept, but to be honest the delays worry me. I think I will just stick to the mousepad I had that had a pad of paper on top of it. Same concept, except you can take the sheet of paper off and if you are at work, file it. Or it if it is something you need to take with you, you just pull the paper off and then go. Originally found it at storables (but they are no longer around :-( but I'm sure I will be able to find it somewhere else until this product is available.

A friend of mine ordered one of these back in October, and hes been whining a lot lately about not getting it. Its been over 4 months since it hit threshold, any updates? Is it safe to say that the material issues you guys talked about in the past were a bit larger than you let on?

Scratch-n- Scroll was written up in WIRED's December issue! See page 88:"Quirky.com's Scratch-n-Scroll is proof that crowdsourced product development can lead to amazing results. It's a mousepad that you can jot notes on with your finger (or the included stylus). Then, when you're done, life the pad's top layer and the words disappear -- just like the Magic Slate you had when you were a kid. $15."

I would like to know what the status of this product is. I committed to three for personal use and would like to buy more before Christmas but am getting nervous that this is a scam. I know my account has not yet been charged but I did trust to hand over my credit card information on a hunch that this could be a great item. Now it is going on two months with no word.
